V-Ray | formZ is coming!

We are wrapping up a few developments to prepare for a private beta release. We are hoping to have a releasable version in the next two weeks.

Are you ready? We are and we believe we have what will be the next most valuable tool in your digital toolbox!

Some first facts:

1. V-Ray for formZ is running on both WIN and OSX.

2. We are requiring that you have the latest version of formZ 8.5.

3. V-Ray for the most part will need the same machine specifications as you need for formZ itself. If you have more CPU power and RAM that's fine too. If you have a GPU then bring it on!

4. We are going to be looking for images and projects to share as part of our marketing efforts. What ever you can share with us we'd appreciate it.

5. This is Beta software. Although we recognize it as a stable release please use caution when using the plugin. Work on files that you know you have backed up or that you will not risk your livelihood on.

If you're interested please drop us an email at vray@formz.com with examples of your best rendering work. If you can give us an idea of the amount of time you think you can dedicate to testing on a weekly basis that would be helpful too.

Finally, let us know if you have questions.

Hi Tohbryan,

That is a VERY old version of formZ and there have been significant improvements over the years.  You should seriously consider checking out the current version of formZ, it is so much better in many many ways...

After all the rumours, this is great news and looking forward to trying it out!

Will the Beta be available for us all to try or just limited to a select set of testers?

Is the GPU use limited to NVIDEA? Currently using a Mac Pro so finding an additional use for my 2x AMDs would be great.

Very Excited!

I would also like to know the OSX GPU options for V-Ray.  I believe GPU acceleration only works with V-Ray RT?  Also, the current documentation shows it is not supported in OSX.   But I have read on other forums where the bug keeping it from working has been resolved.  Any help so we can plan our future upgrades would be most appreciated!

Thank  you!

Corey

Have been a long time advocate of Vray for FormZ and have already tested a bit

Really pleased it is all going ahead and hope to help where I can... although very busy on other things at the moment.

I think this will be a huge boost for FormZ and a good marriage between the excellent modelling of FormZ and the equally excellent and reknowned rendering of Vray.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Mario,

Sorry for the delay in responding.  V-Ray for formZ works with formZ jr. The caveat is that  V-Ray for formZ is 64 bit only. formZ jr is 64 bit on OS X but is 32 bit on Windows. So V-Ray for formZ works with formZ jr on OS X today.

We will be transitioning to 64 bit for all of our windows applications soon. We already have a Win64 formZ jr build of v8.5.3 that we are testing in house and could make available on an as needed basis for V-Ray for formZ jr on Windows.

I`m just wondered if you are receiving my letters? I`v sent six reports and suggestions about 24 hours ago and got replied to only one.  Am I suppose to send other reports and finally you will produce new beta based on them in silence?

I asked something similar myself Anton.

I'm really hoping the feedback mechanism isn't going to be closed (emails to the devs only) as we'll all end up reporting the same things repeatedly. I also don't think it's wise for the feedback to be in a public forum, especially when we're so early in the beta process and performance/clashes with other plugins seems to be a major issue. A similar setup to the Thea beta forum would be ideal.

Anton,

Thanks for your feedback. Please refer to the answers we emailed you earlier. We always try and respond as soon as possible but please understand that sometimes it may take a day or so (we have had a few installation issues to deal with today).

We are working on setting up a private forum, hopefully next week.

Perfect.

For the beta to be valuable, the artist's testing need to feel that they can be frank with their opinions. Respectful too obviously, but things might appear a tad brutal to the casual observer. :)

Hi Anton,

Even with all these new rendering options  becoming available, we have still had a lot of users sing the praises of RenderZone for its speed, ease of use, and more.  We plan to continue offering RenderZone -- in addition to whatever other render options we can for the future. That way you can choose what you like, and / or what is most effective for the job at hand.   ;)

Completely agree with Jon above. Somehow I would feel lost without Renderzone, so I do hope it continues to be available and continues in development. It is useful in my workflow, however I will eagerly adopt either Vray or Thea Render when they are available. Currently I use Maxwell when required, however rendering times are problematic. Not yet decided if I will chose Vray or Thea Render when the time comes. Currently thinking Vray might be more for me as it still allows lots of artistic freedom compared to more physically accurate engines.
