    Is FormZ working on M1 Macs?

    I am running a 2010 12 core Mac tower with OS X 10.11 and a flashed 980Ti 6GB video card. You can get one of these machines online w/32GB and 500GB SSD for about $1750. I use lots of textures, most work is presented with Shaded Full and I render with Maxwell when required (2-8 Hrs per 4K image). Very happy with the old hardware, I spend almost no time messing around and wasting time on updates shenanigans. I use FZ more than 50 hrs a week and this old stuff still works great for me, fingers crossed that it will last awhile longer. I do have FZ installed on a 2019 5K iMac as well, but the video FPS is slower and jerky on my poly and texture heavy models (±500MB files), something that is not apparent on my tower.

    Yes please. Re-itegrate the Inspector palette back into Tool Options, or even as you have illustrated it would be more efficient.
  4. Here is the latest WIP. Windows need sashes and installation next. Then the foundation, deck, columns, and widow's walk. Scale is 3/8"=1'-0" - it's about 18" tall.
  5. Also, once you get a workspace which you like, make two copies of it and then export from the workspace manager. When things go bad you can then re-import that file and you will be back up to speed right away. I save an A and a B (both identical) so that if I mess one up I still have a backup.

    Modo and FZ are great companions. I use modo for complicated organic subdivision cage modeling (because it has really good soft selection tools) and then bring the object into FZ where I convert to subdivision and then convert into nurbs. Works really well at creating super complicated organic nurbs shapes that can then be further worked on in FZ with booles etc. Many parts of the mech were done this way (some are pure FZ hard surface modeling.) The parts in this model ended up as separate nurbs solids exports for CNC machining.

    I've been considering making videos for FZ for a long time now. I love FZ and I have a lot of tips and tricks I could share. The things holding me back are that I have zero experience in video production, and poor voice and camera presence lol. (That's not me in the avatar.)   9. Search for: There is a neat app called TreeSketch3 for iPad. It was a university project and was really intuitive to use with a simple but comprehensive interface that exports tree models with great results. The problem is that is very hard to find a copy online to download nowadays. There are Shareware tree creation programs like: Treeit , Arbaro, ngPlant, Powerplant Here is a great site for detailed tree (and many other types of) models: https://archive3d.net/?tag=Tree These may require some work, eg. separating into separate meshes, making solids from open meshes, converting polys to solids, etc. I use FZ for these tasks to process models and then import them into 3D Coat (sculpting software) for cleaning up, merging, simplifying and prepping for printing. I finish by re-importing back into FZ for scaling and quality checking before exporting out .stl to print. Do you have a photo of the level of detail/shape of foliage you are trying to achieve? Maybe I can help out, it's a slow weekend. If you choose a model from archive3d.net maybe I can convert it to a growable stl.

  14. I use the scale tool in a side view to achieve this. It should also be possible to show controls and then adjust the height of the wire helix Or to enter an exact height in the data field. I don’t have access to check at the moment.

    Dynamic Extend

    Wouldn't it be great to have an option added to the Extend Tool to allow faces to be interactively pulled with the distance field live for numerical input and have it utilize the CMD key toggle for Static/To Face/Dynamic options? Or maybe just add a new tool that would have this utility.
  16. I think what you are suggesting would be a cool feature! There is an image tab in the hatch options palette but I haven’t been able to figure out how to get it to load an image. One nice thing about the hatch feature is that the .pat hatching is converted to vector lines in HL.
  17. Select the object or objects you would like to have hatches show in the clipping plane. In Tool Options Palette choose the Cross Section Tab. Open the Hatch Palette and drag the desired Hatch from it into the Selected Hatch Option box. It should show a plus-sign cursor and assign that hatch. Note in the attached images that while an object is selected, the hatch in the cross section does not show up. Hope this is what you were describing and that this helps. Oh, and be sure that Show Hatches is checked in the Display Options for each of the display modes you want it to show with; Wireframe, Shaded Work, Shaded Full, and Hidden Line.
  18. I use this often, and I usually create a "Master layer" which has all the other layers contained within so that all the layers in the project get the override with only one box to click. A key sct for that would be useful, but tricky to implement due to multiple layers. Perhaps a key sct would trigger all layers' Material Overrides at the same time? An alternative solution would be to have Material Override Attribute show up in the Contextual menu when you right click on a specific layer the way that Select All Objects On Layer is specific to the layer clicked on.
  19. Just starting. I don't know what I'm doing at all. Using a Mac 10.11.6 so Python should be installed right? (how can I find out which version of Python is installed?) I ran "cube.py" utility from the Extensions menu and I got this error msg: I thought there may be a permissions error so I moved the script to the desktop and got the same error message implying that it was trying to open the same file, not the one on the desktop so I renamed the one on the desktop to cube2.py retried and then got this msg: ...and no .pyc file was created. What is going wrong here?

    Beginning Hiccups

    I ran "python ––version" in Terminal and it returned this: and then I downloaded Python 2.7.18, ran the installer. It created a Python folder with this in my Applications folder: So it looks like I have 2.7 in /Library/Frameworks but the No module named cube2 is still displayed when I run the cube2py script. Is the 2.7 enough 2.7.? or do I need to get the 2.7.18 installed and how?

    Independent window

    I use scenes for this. And I have those scenes saved in my template file so they are available in every project I work on. Typically: Full Screen, 2K x 4K, 4K x 8K, 4Ksq, 8Ksq and 2:2.35 feature film format as well. If you create a new window and then click on one of these, your window will be good to go.
