  1. It seems as though your GFX card isn't getting used for the render. Open your V-Ray Settings palette and click the arrow in the bottom right corner next to Utilities. From that drop-down menu, select GPU Device Selection. Then choose your Nvidia card in the next window. Make sure you click Set Devices, then try a render. The artifacts should be gone. In the future, please contact us at support@formz.com for quicker response times.

The formz change I would most like to see.

This follows the broad UI standard that you normally expect with a paste operation (think of how in a text editor the paste operation replaces the highlighted text). While a 3D application is a bit different, its not uncommon to copy a set of objects, paste them in an empty project to work with them and then copy and paste them back into the original project. In this workflow you want to replace the original objects but there are also times where you may not won't to replace them and its easy to forget to deselect first. We can easily add some control over this function, the question is what is the best way? One option is a preference setting (Replace on Paste: on/off/ask) but that is hard to find and tedious to change. A better solution may be separate paste commands in the edit menu (ie "Paste" and "Paste and Replace").

You can do that already by going to Project Settings > Appearance > Select or create and custom style > Select Pre-Pick to change the colour to green or whatever. Thanks Des. Also be sure that you have "Selection Preview" checked in the Edit Menu. When enabled, the preview of the selection will be shown in the "Pre-Pick" color when the cursor is over the Object/Face/Edge etc or in the boundary of an area selection. This option is on by default (but could have be inadvertently deselected in the Edit menu).
  4. We are pleased to announce that formZ 8.6 now available for pro, jr, free and student editions. This version is not available through software update due a technical limitation in the update. form•Z 8.6 uses the same registration codes as v8.5. After installing you will be prompted to register. If you are on a machine with an v8.5 installation, the codes will be pre-filled in the registration dialog. SDK History

The SDK has been available since v6 as both a C(/C++) interface and an FSL (form•Z script language) interface. With v9 we are introducing Python support. This simplifies and standardizes the scriptable interface for form•Z making extending form•Z easier and opening an channel to a wealth of existing python libraries that offer a variety of functionality. The C interface will still be supported in v9, but we expect the to be used primarily for existing plugins or development that needs to access external C libraries. FSL will be discontinues. We expect that the Python interface will bring new interest in extensions and to the LAB project which has not been updated in a while. We expect to start beta testing towards the end of next month so stay tuned!

    Toon Material

Toon with GPU rendering is not yielding consistently results so we recommend not using GPU with Toon at this time. Toon is admittedly and older shader not offered by all modern V-Ray products. We have had a number of requests to add it and it does give some nice effects. We have reached out to Chaos Group to get more details on planned GPU support for Toon.

Does Form•Z Tech monitor this forum?

We do monitor the forum. Frankly we have been a bit “heads down" on v9 so our apologies if we are not always quick to respond lately. We will will try to do better. Having said that the forum is mostly intended as a place for discussion of ideas, experiences in a sharing community. If you need technical support please email us at support@formz.com. Every support email is assigned a ticket number that gives us a much better way to track issues and respond to your questions and resolve problems.
  16. On February 14th of each year we celebrate the anniversary of the first release of form•Z. This is a time for us to celebrate the great work and outstanding designs created by the form•Z community over the years. Your creations inspire us to look forward to the future with the same enthusiasm and anticipation as the day we started this journey. Thank you for the support over the years. Specially to those who embrace the form•Z community on this forum and graciously offer assistance to others, share their work and offer suggestions and constructive criticism that makes form•Z a better solution for all.
  17. This is being improved in v9 but we also want to make sure everyone is aware of a subtle feature that was added in v8.6. When you right click on a material there is a new option at the bottom of the context menu to select all of the objects (and faces) that are assigned the material. An additional benefit of this is that if the material is not used, the menu item will be dimmed giving quick feedback if the material is in use or not. While this is not replacement for the Elect By Criteria palette., it is a quick way to get to the common talk of finding the object that use a material.
  18. We released v8.6.4 today. This version improves support for OS X Mojave (as well as other improvements and corrections) You can update your installation by selecting "Check for Update" from the Help menu. Note that if you are using 8.5 or 8.6.0 (or if you experience issues with the software update feature because of a fire wall or other connection issue), you will need to install from HERE . Here is a list of what is new in the latest version: http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/whats_new.html Best!

    formZ v8.6.4 released

A memory leak is simply a portion of memory (virtual) that is reserved by a process and then abandoned with out being released for re--use (by the same process or others). To our knowledge there are no significant memory leaks in formZ. We are aware of some of small leaks that are beyond our control as they are in third party technology we use (ACIS, file translators etc) and even in Windows itself. These will show as leaks in formZ because we are the process that they are associated with on your machine. The leaks total a few Kilobytes and are really not materially significant. We monitor leaks as part of development process to be sure were are not using memory inefficiently or leaking. Webroot would be more useful if it warned when leaking a significant amount of memory! Even a large memory leak would hardly be noticeable on todays machines as the inactive pages would be swapped out of physical memory to virtual memory and in a 64 bit app there is plenty of addressable memory. so you are very unlikely to actually run out of memory because of a leak.

andrew likewise we are not experiencing the issue that you are describing. These are areas that were not affected by the corrections made for this version. Can you give some more details of the problems as we are not reproducing them here. If you contact us through support@formz.com we can setup a screen sharing session to get a better handle on these issues.

Flosimo & Hugo we have been testing and we have not been able to reproduce problems with scenes or editing groups. Can you please give some more details or steps of the issue you are experiencing. Neither of these are areas that were affected by the corrections in v8.6.4 so we are quite surprised that you are encountering these issues.

    formZ v8.6.4 released

We did discover an issue that can happen on certain versions of OS X that can cause a problem when closing files or switching to the desktop. We have updated the 8.6 release to 8.6.4.1 to address this. Please select for "Check For Update" from the Help menu to get the latest 8.6.4. Note that the update message will still show 8.6.4 as the UI does not show the minor version numbers so it will install a new version even though it appears its trying to reinstall the same version (the startup screen will show 8.6.4.1 after the latest update).
  25. It appears that Apple dropped support for certain formats of legacy bitmap graphics in OS X 10.13 High Sierra. form•Z 6 uses this format for some of its palette graphics. To fix this you will need to replace the resource file in your current installation with a new one that contains updated graphics that are supported by OS X 10.13. Please follow these Steps: • Be sure that you have form•Z 6.7.3 installed. This fix will only work for form•Z 6.7.3. If you don't have it, you can download it here: http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/formz_6_Upgrade_Professional.html • Download "formZ_RenderZone_Plus.rsrc.zip" below if you have a form•Z RenderZone Plus installation or "formZ.rsrc.zip" if you have a regular form•Z installation. If necessary, extract the zip file. You should now have a file named “formZ RenderZone Plus.rsrc” or "formZ.rsrc". • Locate your formZ 6.7.3 Application folder (Usually in Applications/formZ/) • Right-click on the "formZ RenderZone Plus" or "formZ" application icon and select "Show Package Contents" from the menu. • Open the "Contents" Folder. • Open the "Resources" Folder. • Replace resource file in the "Resources" Folder with the one that you downloaded. • Launch form•Z 6.7.3! formZ_RenderZone_Plus.rsrc.zip formZ.rsrc.zip
