    form•Z 9 beta

Mirror modelling is really good! Works on any type of model including Nurbs, SubD and others...

We are looking for some private testers.

Corey Have been a long time advocate of Vray for FormZ and have already tested a bit Really pleased it is all going ahead and hope to help where I can... although very busy on other things at the moment. I think this will be a huge boost for FormZ and a good marriage between the excellent modelling of FormZ and the equally excellent and reknowned rendering of Vray. Cheers Steve cadschool.co.uk

    Volumetrics

Have been trying to get Volumetrics to work without any success. I attach a file with both an emitter and a cone light but no bananas! I have a volumetric object totally encompassing both light and camera and have tried bumping it up to 100 which seems to be the highest value possible and nothing in either Fire or Maxwell render... What am I doing wrong? Cheers! volumetrics.fmz.zip
  4. thanks - I found the Copy Atributes and did it that way. Glad it is not a bug but would be good to ask Autodessys for that ability
  5. I am trying to change the Maxwell attributes of multiple selected objects. The moment you have more than one object selected the Maxwell attributes don't show up in the tool options attributes. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Is there a workaround? Cheers Steve
  6. I am using an MXED derived texture to create a spotlght. In MXED I create an emitter and that emitter is a spotlight with particular beam angle Am going down this path in order to have many surface mounted downlights which can be controlled by one multi light slider. However when I apply the new material to a disk whose normal faces down to the ground the beam is not pointing down as expected. I was also expecting to see the disk glowing as well but that may be a separate issue. See accompanying images and FormZ model. Notice the location of the disk and the location of the beam pattern in the top view especially. spotlights from MXED.fmz.zip

    Bump shader error ?

    thanks!

    Bump shader error ?

I have made a suspended ceiling by using the grid shader The colour of this transfers to Maxwell fine However the bump map which is also the grid shader does not translate and I am left with the FormZ logo producing the bump! If it translates the shader for the colour, why can't it translate it for the bump?

    Volumetrics

I have re-installed it all and it now works!! thanks for the help!

    Volumetrics

    Tried that but no change

    Volumetrics

I will email it to you but saw on it that I have Volumetrics and other extensions missing. Have emailed to Ben

    Volumetrics

Doesn’t matter which - no bananas!

    Volumetrics

Funny but I opened your file and when I render it I don't get any volumetric at all! I checked my version of Maxwell which is 3.1 and your plugin which is 3.1.0.4 The only reason I tried 100 was that I wasn’t seeing any effect! Any idea why I am not getting the effect? thanks!

    Bump shader error ?

Hi there thanks for looking at this and getting a result so quickly! I have downloaded the latest plugin and am now getting good results in the bumps that match the ceiling grid. In order to get reasonable results I have to set the Grid amplitude and background amplitude to -9999 and +9999 respectively. I attach a render that shows both maxwell and Renderzone with these settings Any comments ? Any chance of being able to translate the bump into a displacement?

    Some IES files don't work

thanks for testing these for me. I will contact next Limit support as advised.
  19. I am trying to make some good looking spotlights and having to resort to IES as the edge of spots from FormZ/Maxwell are too sharp even if I use inner angle 0 and outer angle say 100. However lots of the IES files that I have don't register with Maxwell/FormZ. Why is this? I tried to attach one of the files that doesn’t work (but it works in Cinema 4D, Vectorworks etc) but it seems you can only attach images to this forum! Cheers Steve

Adjusting many Cone lights at the same time

Gary thanks - I am aware of this However if you use geometry to effectively give you a cone light that is a downlighter and therefore embedded in the ceiling then you have 2 options: 1. Make the geometry and cut a hole in the ceiling every time you place a light The downside of this is that it is difficult to move as you have to move the light fitting and the hole. 2. Make a light fitting with a modelled cone that is then made to be hidden from the camera The downside of this is that you get a radiosity shadow of the invisible cone If you use a cone light then it can be 'surface mounted' The downside at present is that it is not linked to any other lights in order for it to be adjusted as one bank of lights (unless there is some way of adjusting a number of the lights in the multi light panel in Maxwell - anyone found a way?)
  21. In FormZ/Renderzone there was the facility to use light groups to adjust many lights with one slider. Now that you can have cone lights in FormZ/Maxwell it would be good to be able to adjust many lights in the same way. Also when rendering an MXS file and using multi light I was hoping to be able to gang together a number of lights and adjust them together. Is this possible? Again - this would be highly desirable. Before Cone lights were available you would use an emitter material to produce a spot and if you reused the same material for a number of spots this enabled you to adjust many lights at the same time. Of course you can still do this but much easier to use cone lights (or IES lights) as you can make ceiling lights without having to cut holes in the ceiling for the light fitting. I am rendering an exhibition stand at the moment for which this would be very helpful... Will attach a rendering tomorrow..

    Bump shader error ?

Hi there. Didn't understand completely. Seeing as the shader grid is being used for the bump channel I don't see how I can reload it - it is not an image file. Anyway I attach the test file for you to look at. ceiling bump maxwell.fmz.zip

Adjusting many Cone lights at the same time

Great! Look forward to it. BTW is there any way of moving several light sliders together in Maxwell Render app. (rather than the light groups in FormZ) ?

    Bump shader error ?

I could send the file but it is simply a material that uses the grid shader as its colour texture and the same grid shader in the bump channel. The colour is represented fine and translates whereas the bump channel reverts to the FormZ logo I presume if the one can be translated on the fly then so can the other.
