jtucker Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Anyone here use a 3dconnexion device with Form Z 8? I can't seem to get it set up correctly. I have SpaceExplorer with latest driver. running OS X 10.9.5. What I want to do is get the scene to spin around the Z axis when I twist the controller. It works fine in Rhino... Any help would be appreciated.
rob Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hmm, works for me. Does the controller work at all for you? Or just certain spins?
jtucker Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Yes it works...it just doesn't respond the way i expect. when I rotate the controller, it rotates the view clockwise or counter clockwise relative to teh screen. I wnat it to rotate about the z axis. That is how it orks in Rhino with (i think) the same settings.
Des Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 It took me a while to get the setting the way I liked within FormZ. One of the the settings I disabled was the 3d mouse roll left/right. I also reversed some of the other settings. I've saved out my settings if you want to try out, just go to import configuration and select the 3dc file. Make sure you have FormZ selected in the Configure drop down menu. Again, this is my configuration and may not suit you.... Des 3Dconnexion Config.3dc.zip
jtucker Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 Ok I figured this out kind of. Des, your configure shows FormZ / bonzai3D. I have separate listings for bonzai3d, FormZ and FormZ RadioZity. It looks like FormZ is using the bonzai3D profile (???) rather than the FormZ. So now when I edit / change that configuration, FormZ responds to it. My laptop has the FormZ / bonzai3D that you have. On one hand I wonder why it is like that, but on the other I guess I am ok with it. I think I will delete the others.
DMclean Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Like Des, it took me quite a while to get the Connexions working the way I liked it, but I eventually came to pretty much the same settings as Des has, reversing all the lefts for rights, forward for backward, etc... The only difference with mine is that I didn't disable the rolls... Once you get it going it is well worth the effort. I now cannot imagine how to work without it. When I switched to 8 during the Beta tests, the support for it wasn't enabled yet and I found myself completely lost... I use it in combination with a Wacom Tablet and I can't working any other way feels like drawing with bricks... My system also had several different configs for RadioZity, etc and I did the same as you, just deleting them except for one that I had edited... I also find that I have to be aware of the "Rotate Around" setting in the 3D connexions palette within formZ. I usually have mine set to Rotate around camera position because that behaves like you are in the scene looking through the camera, but occasionally I will find it has been reset (usually because I imported a file where it was set to one of the others) and it seems to be behaving weirdly. It isn't of course it's just behaving the way it's set and I'm not used to rotating around centre of interest or centre of scene. It's a great tool. Enjoy.. Doug
Tech Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Hi Gentlemen, This should be working properly from the start. If you are having any issues, we would recommend going into the 3Dconnexion System Preference, Remove any formZ or bonzai3d application that is listed, and then re-Add it once more -- and it should look like this: Then, if you want to make any additional customizations (or perhaps invert everything as Doug shows -- you can certainly do that too. Does this help?
