not all points being selected in an elevation/axonometric view

For example, if I am viewing a side elevation of a rectangle block and I select the top points of the block to move and shorten the block height, in some instances, a point or points that are furthest from my viewpoint (and hidden by the points in front in an axonometric view) will not be selected and will not move with the selected points. I have never seen this before and it started in version 8. Do I have an unchecked preference somewhere?

Do I have a graphics card issue? Also attached is a snapshot of what happens sometimes in my views palette, layers palette, etc....the dotted triangle that you grab to open change the viewing size of the palette will disappear and makes using the palette area cumbersome. It will correct itself if I restart formZ or reset the workspace. I have seen this issue for well over a year.

Third issue I see is..... if I am using the roller wheel on the mouse to zoom in or out, sometimes the selected 3d model will totally disappear if I zoom in for a closer look. This is a problem I have seen for 3-4 months now. These 3 issues kinda seem to be related....not sure what to explore. All graphic drivers are up to date. I thought about replacing both my graphic card main Nvidia GTX760 and second card Quadro K2200....might seem one is going bad or they are conflicting with each other. I added the K2200 in early summer to see if I could improve(and have a friendlier FormZ graphics card), the small annoying issues that made me wonder if my GTX760 graphic card driver was up to date that day. I have a ASUS g10 PC.

Sorry for all the issues in one post....I'm perplexed by the points not being selected.....other 2 issues are just presented to see if all 3 lead to a better diagnosis.

Hi Derek,

We are not aware of issue 1.  If you have a file where this happens, please send it and include a screen capture showing what to frame pick so we can test it here.

Mixing graphics cards is not a good idea in general.  If you remove one and only use the other, does that work better for you?  Per here:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

The GTX760 would likely give you better performance.  Make sure to Uninstall the "other" driver, and Install the current driver for the card you keep.

Zooming with the scroll wheel works relative to the current View Parameters, so if your eye point is far past your objects, scrolling in can quickly move past the objects.  Could that be the third issue you are describing?

This tech note contains more information regarding zooming with the scroll wheel:

Zooming with the Scroll wheel works relative to the current view parameters, and how far it zooms is determined by the length of the line of site (which is the distance between the eye point and the center of interest for the active view -- whose values you can see in the View Parameters Palette).

If you set the Center of Interest on or near the desired zoom location, then this can make zooming into that part easier. One way to do this is to use the Fit command -- and if you pick any objects and execute the (Command F) key shortcut, the picked objects will be fit -- and the center of interest will automatically be centered these objects. You can also try setting a smaller zoom in by percentage (closer to 100%) to reduce the zoom speed if you like.

When simply zooming with the Scroll wheel alone, the eye point is moved closer and closer to the center of interest, and the percentage for this movement is controlled by the Zoom Options (palette): Zoom In By value. Thus, as you get closer and closer to the center of interest, you will notice that the zooming gets slower and slower. When this happens, zoom back out a bit until the zoom speed is moving you a reasonable amount.  Then, hold down the Alt and try scrolling back in again.  This will then move the entire camera forwards, and the rate of zooming (also controlled by the Zoom In value) will be constant (since the distance between the eye point and center of interest is not changing).

Does this help?

Rob , definitely in wireframe mode , and occurs so occasionally I forgot to mention.

Also in the crossing left/right options have no effect at all , neither in wireframe or shaded modes.....are these totally broken ?

I've been having a possibly related issue lately when selecting points to perform a Move operation when working with smooth geometry. The selection is fine (I think, I guess I should check next time) but when I perform the Move operation, the points snap back to their original position. If I do the move again but with segments selected instead of points, it completes correctly. I'm not sure why one would work and not the other.
