    VRay 5 beta progress?

Most certainly photos and especially when this is considered https://www.beardsley.com/architecture-design-engineering-portfolio-ny/great-camps/victoria-boathouse/
  2. formZ v9.0.0.3 Pro - CGPersia Forums.pdf comes here to trash his pirated software unbelievable that he actually uses the same user name lol

  12. The above model will render like this in maxwell if set up correctly You need to use glass and liquid with correct Nd and attenuation glasses of white & sparkling.tga
  13. Liquids in bottles or glasses need a very specific modelling technique to render correctly n Maxwell. Depending also whether you are using render booleans. You can't just model a glass with a liquid inside (as in real life) and expect a correct result. This is obviously incorrect Have a look at the attached glass with liquid.fmz

    Importing 3rd party models

Sorry , to clarify... 'Sometimes' fz wont open obj files....whereas rarely have issues with 3ds....or dwg Semi related... Simple self test for fz obj files....try importing a fz saved obj into Ivy Generator....wont happen because there is no end of file command. Import the same fz obj into another package and re export , problem solved with Ivy Generator Something about the way fz handles obj files is not correct PS Rhino is a great for file transfer pip

    Importing 3rd party models

I have used Design Connected models a lot and haven't had a problem with obj format or 3ds...textures don't come in but UV mapping is usually all good. FZ often wont open obj files.....this is because the end of file command is unrecognised or the .mtl is not recognised (both are long standing issues) Avoid fbx at all cost...As Andrew states , the models are often scrambled into random arrangements. If problems occur workarounds for me are either import and re export from rhino ( you can get a free version for these purposes ) Or do the same with 3Dmax ( if you are lucky enough to have a copy ) Very easy to import and reconfigure export settings for obj or 3Ds and is almost always a good result best Pip
  16. Hey guys , thanks for the all the positive comments Little bit of background info on setting all these scenes up.... A lot of the major architectural models are fz , actually all are very simple 'sketchy' geometry. Sketchup plays an important function for setting up scenes , instancing and texturing....unfortunately not the strong areas for fz , however we don't use the live sketchup plugin For the same reason use maxwell studio. Fz really needs to improve mapping and terrain modelling ! The complex landforms are all sketchup built In short , Lumion imports in a myriad of formats , the biggest issue being scale None of these animations are marketing documents , just design development tools. Our team is a two person operation...long hours and lots of determination (and coffee) My advice is not to get to hung up on a streamlined system....use methods that work for you...Lumion excels with speed....and as for real time , forget it ! The render times for these animations runs from 10 to 200 hours on a 2080ti And finally , we are primarily a mac based studio....PC's only for Lumion crunching
  17. Hey guys I thought I would throw in my five cents worth here We have been using Lumion since version 7.....but really only a usable option since version 9 The most important consideration is end use .... I don't consider Lumion as a tool for still images full stop , only for animation. The reasons for this are the GI is not advanced enough and the lack of ray tracing require reflection planes to be manually placed of which there are a maximum of 10. Don't get too excited about the "vast" libraries as realistically , only a fraction of this is of medium quality. That being said it is possible to produce animations of reasonable quality as long as you don't get to hung up on the correctness of the render quality. It is an extremely expensive app for what it does.......the updates are frequent but you pay a huge price each time for only very limited enhancements. See below a few examples.....I will post a few more recent ones done with the latest 10.5 when the projects become public so everything below is done with version 9.5

    Match view question

Des , yes all very precise info Best to work with a full frame 35mm , no need for multipliers Our methods are pretty much the same , match view I really only use for aerial montages from drone photography

    Match view question

my investigations with the match tool are that even when the result looks correct when matched with a full frame of 35mm photograph the resulting focal length is not correct I have checked this many times by comparing manual placement of camera on a fixed surveyed point on the site plan and correct camera info from exif (focal length) I have tested this with various focal lengths 21mm - 200 all with varying results I wouldn't rely on match view for a render that scrutinisation from government departments pip

    Lumion plugin

Lumion has progressed now to be rather impressive indeed For architecture the perfect solution A plugin would be great.....specially as lumion only likes dxf from fz

    wip & recent renders

Thanks J for the complimentary words Lumion is by no means a perfect tool , It excels primarily in speed and setup With regard to our animations however, they are primarily studies or competitions , not marketing or sales quality output which is not achievable with Lumion. We don't do any realtime yet ....have considered Unreal as a future consideration however..... With our larger scenes there is often a small sketchup component (not the instancing type) The (more) detailed modelling in fz and some massing elements and landform terrain etc in sketchup Also easier to work with google maps and faster to paint up in skp... Lumion imports various file types so no issue here , the lack of a live plugin is no issue , on sketchup I don't even bother with it. Lumion prefers fz files in dxf , dwg .....3ds and obj also. With regard to plugins I will surely be in the minority here With maxwell I only use the plugin to export into studio...fz and maxwell never operate simultaneously I just prefer it this way , same with fz lumion....export the file , import the file . Also we are working with some pretty huge files so stability is always optimum with only one app open pip
