-andrew-
I'm trying to figure out how to ideally move the top straight edge of the half-cylinder face shown here (blue). The cutout was made by reshaping with an arc drawn on the surface. I want to move the top edge "away" from the viewer, creating a sloping side to the cutout with this shape. When I move the edge, the whole half-circle edge moves along with it! thanks, Andrew

-andrew-
Looks like a job for a booleen to me. Hi Spacer - thanks - I know I can create it from a boolean... the catch is really a matter of whether I need to adjust it later, e.g. if I don't know the final angle I need at the time I begin designing. Hmmm......
R2D2
Maybe try "extend" to face ? (draw an extra face or extrude the upper line and move a segment till angle fits your need, then extend the blue face to it)

Tech
Dear Andrew, There are many ways to create this, but two basic methods are using the Extend command as R2 shows, or by drawing the cylindrical shape, cutting it with a plane or line, and then Differencing it from your block...
