UPDATE:

Thank you ADS!  After the v8.5.4 update, I'm also seeing a good speed increase in RenderZone now with OSX and 12 cores selected.

Before:

v6

12 cpu - 00:11:47

24 cpu - 00:12:11

v7

12 cpu - 00:11:59

24 cpu - 00:11:28

RenderZone v8.5.3 results:

4 cpu - 00:31:19

6 cpu - 00:21:20

8 cpu - 00:28:08

12 cpu-00:35:23

24 cpu-01:04:04

After - v8.5.4 results:

12 cpu- 9:56

24 cpu- 10:15

Conclusion - More than DOUBLE the rendering speed of v8.5.3, and a solid 20% increase from v6 and v7.  Hyperthreading is still not really helping, but I suspect that has to do with OSX's handling of it rather than RenderZone.  This is on 10.10.5 Yosemite, have been waiting to upgrade to El Capitan.  Should I upgrade now?  I know the new MacOS is going to take quite some time to be ready for a working environment.

ADS for your benchmark tracking:

00:09:56       XEON        3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro         OS 10.10.5     v8.5.4

Great this file is reposted. I will retest with 12 & 24 processors & post results in 8.5.4.

Justin may be a good idea to also check the old sweet spot 6 & 8 cpu in 8.5.4

Glad to see status bar was added to imager.

The bottom of window was cut short.

12:12:25  Xeon  Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010)    OS 10.11.5  used 8 CPU

12:10:28  Xeon  Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010)    OS 10.11.5  used 12 CPU

12:11:09  Xeon  Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010)    OS 10.11.5  used 24 CPU

Glad to see finally times down compared to earlier fmz builds took up to 1.5hrs using 24 CPU's

Seems 12 CPU ad fastest time. I noticed in Activity Monitor that when 24 CPU were selected it only used 12 CPU's for about 98% of render time

Should these times also be similar results if rendered in fmz app?

Hi Dennis,

Yes, the Imager and rendering directly in formZ should give similar times.

Just thought I'd try to see how my current setup was doing

Previous

FormZ 7 (build 8923)

13:35   Xeon   3.5 Ghz   2013 MacPro 6 Core   OSX 10.9.5

Current

FormZ 8.5.4 (build 9837)

10:46   Xeon   3.5 Ghz   2013 MacPro 6 Core   OSX 10.11.12

I've been holding off upgrading to the latest 8.5 build until I've got a few projects out of the way

Update v8.5.6

09:54       XEON        3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro         OSX 10.10.5     v8.5.6  12-CPU

10:15       XEON        3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro         OSX 10.10.5     v8.5.6  24-CPU

Tech, results are basically the same from v8.5.4 as shared above.  It would appear that for now, we are best setting the CPU to the physical cores and not the hyper-threaded threads.

Hi Justin,

Ok, thanks for the updated numbers.  It looks like this may be the case only when using the 12 core X Hyperthread = 24 core situation, and in that case you are right that you can save a few seconds by limiting it in this case.

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, we will see what we can do to improve this.  ;)

Hi!

I have updated my PC from Win 7 to Win 10, same hardware. Rendering speed seems slightly slower for some reason, but not much.
