Problem at exporting formz object format to Maya

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I tried to export a model from Form-Z to Maya in OBJ format. It was working. However, the imported OBJ model in Maya was not performed well. The faces of the model are shaded with black (in white arrows). I was confused about that.

Can anyone help and teach me how to export model from Form-Z? I did anything wrong?

Thank you so much.

I haven't done any mapping in formz. I just did a very simple test, create a rectangular in formz and then export it to OBJ format. After that, I open Maya and import this OBJ. However, the faces of the rectangular model was showing the above shading.

Can anyone me for fixing this problem please? Thanks a lot.

FZ does the normal mapping automatically on export.  It's not image mapping it's smoothing mapping.

All I've done in this example is to make a cube in FZ and export.

1.  Cube in FZ

2.  File imported into modo (shows the same normal map smoothing as you show in Maya)

3.  Item information showing surface normal map

4.  Surface normal map deleted

5.  Same cube in modo now showing no surface normal smoothing

Hi Kimdo,

In the formZ Export Options, try adjusting the Fix Smooth Shading options.  Does that give you what you what you want?

Or does using the High Quality Smoothing options help?
