-andrew-
Hi all, I haven't used FZ much to open STEP files, but I need it now, and it's getting hung up around 70%. Here's the dropbox link.. any insight is greatly appreciated! https://www.dropbox.com/s/oxxktw7enyou8wj/ceiling-light.STEP?dl=0 thanks, Andrew
Tech
Hi Andrew, This file is importing fine for us: ceiling-light.STEP.zip What happens when you try, and what version of formZ are you using on which operating system?
-andrew-
Hi! When I try importing, it simply hangs with a spinning beach ball (with no indication that it's importing in the upper left), or it got hung up a little over 70%. I had tried some different import options but don't remember what they were... can you advise what settings you're using? I'm on a mac, OSX 10.11.5, formz version 8.5.4. thanks, Andrew
Tech
Hi Andrew, We just used the default options: Are you getting a hang with these settings? If this works, but something else does not, what options are causing the problem for you?
-andrew-
Hi again, I copied these settings, but unfortunately, I got the beachball again! (Without an import dialog showing in the upper left) Is there a log file that's generated that I could post?
Tech
Hi Andrew, We will test your file on some different Mac systems to see if we can reproduce any issues -- and we will report back...
-andrew-
Ok, thanks. BTW I had the same issue with a different STEP file recently.
Tech
Hi Andrew, We are getting a message about a corrupted part, but it is not hanging for us. Perhaps if you download a clean update from here, that will fix it for you? http://www.formz.com/update Or if you still have trouble after that, Quit formZ, go to the Finder: Go Menu, hold down the Option key, choose Library: Preferences -- and then Rename the autodessys folder (add a number to the end of the name). Then test once more. Do either of these fix it for you?
-andrew-
Tried getting the update, but when I try to download, I get this (see attached): I also tried renaming the folder, and a new one was created, but with the same result.
Tech
Hi Andrew, This download is working fine for us. Searching the internet for this error message gives lots of results, and one suggests that choosing Edit: Reset Safari may help. If not, does your IT department block or limit FTP downloads for you? Or can you use a different browser to download the files successfully?
-andrew-
Ok, got the file by using a wired connection... guess our wifi is firewalled or something. Will check back... thanks!!
-andrew-
Ok, I can't seem to register the newly downloaded version; it give the error message "A connection to the internet is required in order to register". Huh?
Tech
Hi Andrew, It sounds like your firewall (or proxy server or other) is blocking formZ from connecting to the internet. If you are unable to adjust your firewall settings to allow this, hold down the ALT key when you click Register -- and follow the additional instructions. -andrew-
Hi Paul - thanks- Well, that was at home... I don't have a firewall set up! That said, I'll try the ALT suggestion & see how it goes. cheers Andrew
-andrew-
Got the update installed to 8.5.4. Still getting a spinning beachball, though [edit] btw this is on the new install with everything left at default.
Tech
Hi Andrew, I am not sure why you would have this problem. That is with the exact same file that you posted above? (Or are you having trouble with a different file?)
-andrew-
I've had the trouble with a few different files, though I only tried it with the one linked above (exact same file) and I'm beachballing at 70.9 percent. (It seems to reach 70.9 percent very quickly.)
