DMclean
I have some cylinders (actually crenelated castle towers) which are smooth objects, The towers are mapped cylindrically and then the ends and the crenelations are mapped flat and aligned. I now want to convert these to facetted surfaces. If I do it by polymeshing, which lets me choose the facetting scheme, the mapping and materials all become cylindrical, blowing away all of work done aligning the materials. This does not happen if I chose to convert the objects via the convert tool, but then I don't have control over the degree of facing or whether I'd prefer not to have triangulation everywhere. Is there any way around this? I want cleanly facetted objects with as little triangulation as possible. Thanks, Doug
Tech
Hi Doug, If you set the Display Resolution to a custom Facetting scheme set to the same options as you used with the PolyMesh tool, and then Convert, does that do what you want?
DMclean
Yep that does it perfectly... Knew there had to be a trick somewhere, just couldn't figure out where it was hidden. Any way to make the polymesh tool not destroy the mapping? Many thanks, Doug
Tech
Hi Doug, Thanks for the suggestion, we will see if that can be retained. Any chance you can send one of your tower objects we can use for testing purposes?
