Guide lines

I want to display a grid at 100mm centres overlaid on my model.

This is easy to do and it displays well when laid orthographically but not very well if at an angle.

See comparison attached displayed as wireframe.

I wonder if there is a way round this?

Hi Alan,

We are not reproducing what you show.  Can you please save the file with a view that is not displaying the Guides properly and send it so we can take a look?

And if you want a regular grid like that, why not just use the Reference Plane Grid -- and Grid Snaps?

Firstly, I don't think the problem is particularly isolated to grid snaps. There is a general display problem in shaded work display where one needs to zoom in or out experimentally until a reasonable display is reached. At many zoom levels a lot of content is invisible, which is a regular frustration including parts of the guides when at an angle. See multiple zoom level example screen captures attached.

It seems very easy to produce a grid which aligns with my model by using the multiple copy tool, so tampering with the reference plane grid and grid snaps which I rarely use at all seems a greater effort, especially as it doesn't extend very far without adjusting settings, as seen in the last screen capture.

My display is a 17 inch windows laptop at the recommended 1920x1080

Hi Alan,

Thanks for posting this FMZ file.  We have verified that this issue can occur in Shaded Mode at specific zoom factors on one of our computers.  Thanks for your report, we will get this corrected.

However, we tried to reproduce the original issues you showed above with the objects or guides in Wire Frame, and we did not reproduce this with your file, or ours.  If you have a case where this occurs, please post that FMZ file so we can take a look.

Hi Tec,

I have found the guide line problem in wire frame to be true in that same file.

Simply draw a guide line snapping to 2 points on one of the existing object lines which has perpendicular elements.

Then create parallel guide lines by turning on multiple copy with 20 instances, starting the copy with the mouse intersecting the same point as before, and move the mouse to a perpendicular point but don't click, instead type 100 for a 100mm guide line interval and press Enter.

Various zoom levels display a variety of guide line visibility / invisibility.
