Teddydog
Is there a way to manipulate a triangulated terrain model . I would like to be able to directly alter an existing model by adding hills, mountains, ridges, river valleys without having to fool around with contour lines. In sketchup, this function is handled by the smove tool in the sandbox suite of tools.
Tech
Hi Teddy, You can move or scale points or faces if you like, but the terrains are not really intended for sculpting in general. It is probably best to adjust the contours to get what you want first, or use a dedicated program for that like Blender or Vue if you need to sculpt it after the fact... etroxel
Teddy, I made a tutorial a while back showing a way that I go about doing what you're talking about. Maybe it will work for what you need. http://getmethod.com/blog/2010/7/19/creating-smooth-terrain-models-using-bonzai3d-sketchup-googl.html
Tech
Hi Evan, Yes, you certainly can do it that way -- whether you start with Google Earth, or a terrain generated directly in formZ from Contours. Thanks for sharing!
etroxel
Yes, the difference being that the "contours" from Google Earth are based on satellite height data, so it's faster than drawing contours, but likely nowhere near as precise.
