Trick
Since a while I have have started to transfer all my modeling work from Fz6 to 3dsMax (incl. some plugins), mostly because the workflow has changed to drastically - or better said has changed to the worst - in the newer versions. I am still uptodate with 2 licenses and am also still keeping an eye on the developments, but for the work I do (3d modelling and rendering large environments) FormZ is not my fastest modeler anymore (Sniff!!) One thing that I use FormZ6 still for is optimizing imported terrains from DWG-files. I also try to do this in FormZ8 because it handles (display!) bigger 2D drawings way better. The main reason I am writing this post is because I would really like to know why it is NOT possible in FormZ8 to change the facetting of polylines, arcs, etc. with the old facetting options "facet by Max Normal Deviation" and "facet by Max Edge Length". The only way facetting a polygon in Fz8 is by using the Polygonize tool where you can only set the number of segments, which is plain crazy if you need a specific curvature on edges that vary in length between 1m and 1000m !?!?!? After having reported some issues (changes from v6 with mostly essential 2D line editing capabilities) with the newer FormZ versions in the past, that have never been addressed, I am really sad the new FormZ does not suit my needs anymore. Tech
Hi Trick, We plan on bringing back the version 6 option of creating facetted "smooth" objects (such as circles and arcs) in version 9. Hopefully this will bring formZ back to being your primary modeler
Bo Atkinson
+1 on more curve options as found on version
Trick
V9 looks promising already. Now if the old v6 2D-trim/extend options (as explained in an earlier thread) could magically return too, you get me back for the rest of my life;)
