Render ground shadows and reflections with Catcher Shader

So I've seen tip #53 (http://www.formz.com/support/tips/tip53.html). I've been using this setup for my ground plane ever since I saw it. I have a problem with Ambient Occlusion though. When I turn it on, the ground plane is visible/grey. Am I doing something incorrect? I've tried turning off and on every setting I can find, but I can't get AO to work with the ground plane set up as shown in the tip/trick.
