Shawno68
I have a question about a component I have created and saved into a custom library. I've saved a ramp edge used for trade stands, along the way I've made changes to that same ramp edge for various different size stands and saving it with a new new in the same library. When I then use one of the ramp edges that's been modified the Embedded Library displays all the ramp edges I've saved after the initial creation. Is this normal? I make my changes by right clicking the component and selecting edit component. I then make the changes then right click the object and select component complete then selecting Break link to library component as I don’t want to override the existing component in my library. Then I would select the Create Component tool and save it to the library the original ramp edge is in but with a different name. Am I editing or saving my components the wrong way therefor causing the many variations to ALL be displayed in the embedded library. ZTEK
It seems normal that they are all embedded if you create them with your method one by one within the same file. To remove components that have been used in a file and are no longer present, they must be purged using the tool with the broom icon. First, select the Embeded library in the list of libraries. Justin Montoya
I'm following this one as I stopped using components in formZ years ago after issues upon reopening files and the components being corrupted or no longer placed correctly. Can you all confirm that in formZ v10 you are using Components successfully without any issues? Cheers. Shawno68
ZTEK
Components? Uf, big topic! I stopped using them long ago because they don't work well with the Scenes, which are essential and way more fundamental than Components. In the past, if I'm correct, there were also issues with Groups that I'm no longer noticing. Over the years, I have tested and tried to work with them many times, and, in the end, I always decide not to use them because, after some bad experiences, I decided it was too risky. However, I have been able to dodge their lack because I fully implemented a workflow based on the Objects and Layers palettes with groups and sub-groups long ago. Thanks to formZ's excellent ability to organize and manage the information this way. In my experience, using the Objects palette with all its offers makes the Components lose importance and become somewhat redundant. That may be why they have never been fully implemented; somehow, they are unnecessary. I have no idea! However, not having access to a reliable component system is tricky, and I think I have been missing the possibility of implementing further options. For example, some time ago, I tried to automate the creation of components between formZ and BricsCAD with excellent results. For this, I used BCAD's Blockify tool, which uses AI to convert the repetitive geometry elements it finds to create blocks; think of all kinds of elements, like doors, windows, handles, lamps, cabinets, etc. With the blocks made in BCAD, importing them into FZ as Components and creating libraries is easy. I could explore multiple options with this system if the Components work more stably in FZ. Regardless, as I'm constantly testing things that could be important for my workflow, I recognize that Components are working better or at least more stable with the last couple of versions. There are still serious issues to solve between them and Scenes, which make it impractical to use them safely, but at least I'm trying them out again just for simple entourages like people and trees. Although they keep disappearing when changing scenes, it's easy to reload them when you change from one scene to another. I also tend to explode them and convert them to plain geometry after associating them with the views I want, having them first correctly oriented according to the cameras. Thanks, I to have run into the problem of components created and then not appearing in the right position or scattered around a scene. Jaakko
I don't use components either. I trust the groups. Perhaps in well-defined work tasks they are functional.
