Henk3D Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Hi everyone, I got in to Form•Z around 1998. I was working as a freelancer and the company I was working for was using Vectorworks for there Interior and exhibition projects. Then good for layouts and even 3d hidden-line views but Modeling and rendering capability's where lacking. So for my self I got Form•Z. I even found a way to update new layouts made in Vectorworks in to Form•Z by using blocks/instances. Problem with using Form•Z was that company's I worked for didn't use it. So there own people couldn't work on my Form•Z files. So I worked with there software but held on to my Form•Z license and even updated it a few times through the years. Now @ 9.2 Pro. This year my 7,5 year job @ a car-factory stoped and I'm looking in to going back to do something in the Architecture, building or interior/design world. In the Netherlands the company's that use Form•Z are limited.. So I probably need to (re)learn some other software.. but for now I want to try and make some nice things in Form•Z and ad that to my portfolio.. Tips are welcome... Thanks, Henk jsiggia 1 Quote
Anwar Posted August 2, 2024 Posted August 2, 2024 Hi Henk, I used to use formZ professionally in the architecture/visualization world, however after a career change it has become just a hobby for me now. formZ is extremely good at modeling architectural things but does lack some functionality that other 3d software has such as sculpting/kinematics/physics that can be found in Blender for example. I've been trying to learn Blender to expand my toolbox, but it is very frustrating to use compared to formZ for architectural modeling I feel. OBJ export from formZ will allow you to get geometry into Blender so that is one scenario for using both packages. One suggestion of something you can do is pick a real-world environment and try to replicate it in formZ and see how close you can get to photorealism. Then if you can the next logical thing to do is try redesigning that space to make it your own creation. Just a thought. Are you using RenderZone or V-Ray or Maxwell as the render engine? -Anwar Quote
Hugo Posted August 6, 2024 Posted August 6, 2024 Hallo Henk, lang geleden he? as you know I work with FormZ v10. don’t know what kind of tips you want. groeten uit Mierlo. 😊 Quote

And an older version of Maxwell but have to see how to set that up... V-Ray I think is used with many other 3d softwares.. not shure how that works. Could be good to know more about. For now I wil stick to FormZ.. There is enough for me to learn in using that! Henk Quote

I'm not sure what kind of tips I want.. I probably need to (re)learn other software to find a new Job. It might be good to do some work in FormZ to show I can do stuff.. Choosing a other cad software to learn can be tricky because the company that has a job that fit's me might work with one of the others and a good course could be expensive.. and to practicing @home would difficult specially because I'm on Mac. Do you know more architects in the Netherlands that work with FormZ? Would be good to catch up in person.. Groeten uit Leveroy Quote
Thommo Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I know the feeling well. My situation was very similar. I'm currently modeling some furniture and getting into 3D printing. That keeps one busy. Quote
Henk3D Posted September 16, 2024 Author Posted September 16, 2024 Hello Thommo I’m verry interested in 3D printing! But don’t own a printer.. would be good to see what others print. And also maybe also how there workflow for 3D printing is.. could be a Youtube tutorial for the formZ channel.. Quote
Des Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 This was posted on YouTube 17 years ago! Where did the time go? Anyway, it shows (albeit at low resolution) the tools used to check the model before going to 3d print. Still interesting to watch.. https://youtu.be/zG1Gp6Ag9Gg?feature=shared Henk3D 1 Quote
Henk3D Posted September 21, 2024 Author Posted September 21, 2024 @Des I have seen that.. again.. I can imagine that there where a lot of developments (not only in video resolution) in those 17 years… Would be interesting what kind of things FormZ users are doing combined with 3D printing… Quote
Henk3D Posted September 28, 2024 Author Posted September 28, 2024 @Des I found a newer YouTube video on 3d Printing With FormZ modeling. Des 1 Quote
