How to export to Draft

Recommended Posts

Wonderful to see that Draft is being brought back but the old method and link to the Draft package has not.  How do you export to Draft?

Tried to look up the manual but it does not work if you try the search function.

Did a trial by exporting a clipped model in plan view - exported DWG and imported into Draft.

Draft turned the imported file which was plan view in Model to single point perspective in Draft.

Hi Kim,

Did you get this sorted out? How does the new V9 drafting environment compare to what we used to have? Are there any added features?

Hi Santa,

I have not yet managed to work out how to use the new Draft.  When I get some time i want to open up my FZ 6 and remind myself of the process, its been a few months since i last used it.

Will post something as soon as i get it going.

1. Set Any special views (other than top, left, right, etc...) in your Modeling project and save file.

2. Create a new Draft or Layout

3. from the "Content palette" (3rd toolset down), Choose Frame or M-Frame.

4. draw Frame

5. from popup window choose settings of your grande desires.  27436584_ScreenShot2020-01-14at12_34_56PM.thumb.png.81d99fe9e957f127fb989655621935b3.png1857702115_ScreenShot2020-01-14at12_37_56PM.thumb.png.1793a2a9ad68678a6d7a5167a7be16dc.png

Hi Chris,

Thanks for posting the instructions.  I can get Layout to work but not Draft.  When I select New Draft, the Content window is all greyed out.

Sorry about that, I presumed they would behave the same.   However, a bit awkward, you can copy from Layout, paste to Draft.

That's a bit odd! Am I correct in assuming therefore, that the only way to return to layout is via copy/paste again?

What happens if one of the views requires modification in draft? Surely the other views will not update also, unless the 3d model itself is modified first.

Such a workflow seems to me like the proverbial dog chasing its own tail!

I presume it is a bug that didn’t get caught. A lot of the focus was on the interface.   If it isn’t a bug, then I suggest making a request.   Myself, I don’t use the layout, as the dimensioning in 3D does what I need.
