Mac/ Sierra/ 3d Connexion moves the mouse cursor

Recommended Posts

My  2012 MacPro/ Sierra/ 3d Connexion moves the mouse cursor only, despite reinstalling the driver 3 times.

I saw no option to uninstall connexion. (I've ignored this important tool for over a year due to other work than 3d).

Any insight would be welcome as I have time for 3d, (finally).

The main problem is the absence of 3D Connexion in the device check list of SysPrefs/Security/Privacy

Yes that seemed to fix a similar glitch, some years ago, but not today.

Thanks and here are some details:

High Sierra 10.13.6 ~ Sys Prefs:

What? “No Device Found”

Is my SpaceNavigator too old for recognition?

Copy-Pasted from Sys Prefs

device-not-found.png

About this Mac:  SpaceNavigator:

  Product ID: 0xc626

  Vendor ID: 0x046d  (Logitech Inc.)

  Version: 4.04

  Speed: Up to 1.5 Mb/sec

  Manufacturer: 3Dconnexion

  Location ID: 0x5d100000 / 1

  Current Available (mA): 500

  Current Required (mA): 100

  Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

My guess is this is an example of “upgrading-out-of-control”

where there are too many devices, too many PC OS issues,

too many product vintages, and so the old adage:

“if it ain’t broke, don’t upgrade”

(until you decide to buy every product all at the same vintage,

all from one vendor who will keep it going, 😉

(Thus we would trash the world ecologically because

electronics waste is actually not recycle -able, ask your junk dealer.)

:)

I finally discovered an unexpected shifting nature of the contents of the  Sierra/ Sys Prefs/ Accessibility  dialog-windows... The latest 3Dconnexion installer has changed significantly since buying the device years ago and USB newer device-installation alters the Sierra/ Sys Prefs/ Accessibility  dialog-windows,  until the user finds the hidden sub menus, but I did not screen-shot all of these, while experimenting every few days anew. Today, after installing a separate device, a curious new part of  the Sierra/ Sys Prefs/ Accessibility  dialog-windows did reveal check boxes for both  my other-device-installer and the previous-connexion-installer, so that finally and  suddenly both are now  functioning correctly. Cheers for that. However this is a lesson that the Sys Pref dialog windows actually change appearance only for the initial device-installation process, and not at other later efforts.

Hi Bo.

I had have this with my Space Navigator and appears like it is a hardware problem. As soon as I replaced it with a new one problem had gone.

Bad news. Sorry

Thanks Ahtoh,  but I should simplify my words now: I finally got it to work with endless clicking in OSX Prefs, the pref options gave further options over time, as I probed (??)

Also I mounted it on a wooden board to allow more speed and range control.

Navigation is back to normal!
