Lighting design render

I'm working on the design of a custom light fixture.  I want to render it with a florescent bulb. Would the Line Light be the best option?  Or are there any tips anyone has out there.  I am designing a custom shell that wraps around several florescent bulbs.

There is a light type called line that you can use for that. You will have to fiddle with the brightness and fall off to get the effect. Unfortunately I can't seem to get the light itself to show when rendered so you may need to put an object in it's place. Would be nice if you could make an object emit light, this would save you the hassle. I had done that in EIAS a long time ago and worked well.

Do you have Maxwell or V-ray?  That would be easy.  However, if you are just using Renderzone it would be best to fake it the same way I did 20 years ago.  Use a line light and then make the bulb geometry glow in its material setting and turn off its shadow casting and receiving.
