Smarttec
Have you a picture - how big are dimensions going to be and does it need to be fully modelled and how complex is the chain mesh?
Des
What Smarttec said.. But, there is a predefined chainlink material already in the FormZ materials library.

Des
Ok a 3d model. It's on a grid, so you only need to model a spline one side of the square rotated 45º. Then mirror copy the spline to get the square keeping in mind that the wires loop around each other in the YZ plane. Then sweep a circle along the spline, maybe 2mm diameter. Once you have the makings of the "square", group it so you can multi-copy it. Keep the resolution low as it'll get really big depending on the amount of copies you make. Hope this helps. FZnoob
I did this with a loose path to simulate the sort of distressed wire in your reference image, where it sort of droops a bit. Then I used a granite shader and fiddled with the colors to look like rust.

craigwilliams
Mark, I don't know if it's too late, but here is a texture-mapped version of a chain link fence. This is great to use where you have a large amount of fencing in your scene. I've also included the Maxwell textures for it. Enjoy, Craig ChainLinkFence.zip

AHTOH
As the other approach: your wires are particular case of flattened helix: chain fence.fmz.zip Unless of course you need to RENDER the whole thing. In this case you might need to play with transparency and bump maps. Best, Anton.
