Mirror Tool (Transformation)

Recommended Posts

Would it be possible to have a true 3d mirror function instead of the currently faulty-mirror function?

Instead of mirror, the current mirror tool actually revolves instead of mirrors. Using versions 7x and 8x seems to lack the  mirror function (after many trials, on many different occasions).

Versions 6 and earlier, did true 3d mirroring, no?

Dear Bo,

We do not understand your "faulty mirror" comment and as far as we know this is working properly.  Whenever you suspect that you may have an issue, please post a SIMPLE file that shows the original state, the "faulty mirrored" state, and indicate what you would like instead.  Then we should be able to understand, help you get what you want, and fix anything in the case that it is not working as designed.

Hi Bo!

I had an issue with the Mirror tool in 7 and 8 as well.  I as able to resolve my issue by turning ON the option in Mirror Tool Options under Axis of Reflection called "Perpendicular to Drawn Line".  Which makes it behave as it did in v6.  By default it is turned on to "Drawn Line" which creates a strange 'revolve' effect instead of the more traditional mirror we were used to.  I think maybe FormZ should default to the old option of "Perpendicular to Drawn Line" instead.

Hope that helps!

Cheers!

Dear Tech,

Please forgive my use of the word 'faulty' and also my lack of initiative to try the option, as noted by Justin.

I should have tried mirroring more obvious object outcomes like a text engraved object, (before posting). As the nature of 3d mirroring gets too complex when exploring more involved geometry.

With Thanks!

To be honest, my difficulties were just minor cross checks attempted in the midst of other efforts at hand… So that i was not providing enough attention…

Obvious objects do work well indeed, like previous versions. It is interesting that some people like to see a rotating preview for mirroring.

Thanks for your great forum and your product support. If only the whole software market could provide this level of support.
