-andrew-
Hi all- I have seen a few things I like on various 3d printing sites - Shapeways in particular - that essentially look like wireframe polygons. However, when I make these in FZ, they have "sharp points" where the corners of the triangular planes meet... I don't have my laptop with me at the moment, but hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about here. Any thoughts? Thanks, Andrew
jonmoore
It sounds like you're describing Voronoi patterns. Something that was introduced to FormZ during the v8 life cycle. I used it recently to create a sculpture whilst testing out the new camera matching tools in Modo 902. Check out this tutorial video for some great starter tips on how to use the tools: This is the scene I created. If only I had the worlds biggest 3d printer... -andrew-
Hi - Not, not Voronoi (those are extremely cool, though... GREAT image!) Imagine you bend your arm & have a small 3-sided pyramid or irregular polygon "patch" popping out of your elbow. THAT. : ) That's what's happening when I create a spherical polygon and convert using Frame (depending on diameter of frame)
jonmoore
Post a picture when you get a chance. It still sounds like some kind of procedural pattern (and that should be achievable). You've got me intrigued now.
Tech
Hi Jon, Great info, thanks for sharing. Andrew, We are also not sure what you are describing. Post a picture when you can so we can better understand and help.
Justin Montoya
This reminds me of a cool Tip of the Week that AutoDesSys shared on Facebook - <div id="fb-root"></div><script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script><div class="fb-post" data-href="https://www.facebook.com/AutodesSys/posts/999330633457156:0"data-width="500"><div class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore"><blockquote cite="https://www.facebook.com/AutodesSys/posts/999330633457156:0"><p>form•Z TIP OF THE WEEK:Use Frame tool to automatically derive a cylindrical frame structure from the segments of a...</p>Posted by <a href="https://www.facebook.com/AutodesSys/">AutoDesSys</a> on <a href="https://www.facebook.com/AutodesSys/posts/999330633457156:0">Monday, February 1, 2016</a></blockquote></div></div>
-andrew-
Hey - is the only way to get an image into the gallery to link it from another site?
Tech
Hi Andrew, Just make a JPG, and use the More Reply Options at the lower right to post an image.
-andrew-
Ok - was wondering about uploading! (png sure would be handy...)Anyway, here's a shot of one of the examples.... again, I expected to find symmetrical results, but this is what I got:
