Legend for color display settings.

We have a lot of control with FormZ to get the results we want. Here is a guide to help predict the effect of some settings including:

Project, layer, object, cross section.

There is a clipping plane active in the file to display hatching and scenes 1 and 2 are the same.

 

Please feel free to improve and develop this further and share with us all back here.

The differences between column 2 and 3 are edge color (pink and blue) as listed in the description. In addition, Edge Override Display is set to "Always On" in Object Attributes for the objects in column 3. This is odd because you would think they would be forced to be showing, but they are not visible at all.  If the Option for Render as Shaded Surface is turned off the behavior is as expected.  It might be a bug.

 

*I am using Shaded Work Display.

Hi Setz, glad you found it useful. I should really have added another column to complete the picture, to compare so attached is:

4 updated screen captures for the shaded work displays, to additionally include column on red layer with object edge override on.

Setz, I find some of these results quite hard to follow, and I agree, for Shaded Work Display, some results are not as expected, especially where edges are absent like you point out.

 

I hope the technicians will check out the behaviours and make any necessary corrections.

Rather than go through the mental exertions to achieve a desired affect, I would like to use my 'pictoral chart' to find the required settings, but it needs to be bug free!

 

I only touched on the attributes 'Basic' and 'Cross-section' but there is also one for 'Smooth Shading'.

 

According too the manual on the subject:

Allow Object And Layer Override: When this option is on, objects that have their own Smooth Shading attribute, will override the settings of the Project Rendering Options. The same is true, if a layer uses a Smooth Shading override attribute. If this option is off, only the Project Rendering Options apply. For example, if a scene needs to be rendered completely flat shaded, the Facetted Objects option should be set to None, the Smooth Objects option set to Use Facetted Objects Setting and the Allow Object And Layer Override should be turned off.

 

Quite a lot to take in, for me at least, so all the more need for an effective chart as a guide.
