allanjl
Hi Ben, Problem 1: After a frustrating goose chase I found a very narrow surface object that was causing my whole model to fail to render if sent to Studio, and subsequently to Maxwell Render. Studio would issue this error "Cannot export scene. Check Studio Console for details. Please see screen shot and attached formZ file. This object will render if sent straight from formZ to Maxwell Render, but most of the time I use Studio to set up my final scene. Is this then a Studio problem? If so, could you please forward the problem object to next limit? I still have trouble posting to their forums. Problem 2. When exporting to Studio, and checking the Export by Layers option, all I get in studio is geometry grouped in one layer; not individual objects grouped in one layer (like it used to work back in formZ 7). This behavior is simply unusable for me, because if I want to replace a few objects, I have to replace the whole set of grouped objects; which defeats the purpose. pylon
Hi Allan, 1. Sorry it took a while to find the source of the issue. I was able to reproduce a problem in Studio with your object. Your object is very narrow (5 cm x 0.03 cm) and is very far from the world origin, so this is likely a tolerance issue. Solutions (at least here, as you have not provided your full project): a) Add any other object to the project, and it will render properly out of Studio or Move the object closer to the origin and it will render. I will look into the cause. 2. Thanks for your suggestion, I have logged a request for layers to groups. (If you disable the "Export by Layers" option, you can replace the individual objects.) allanjl
Thank you Ben, I didn't think of the 'far from world origin problem'. I'll keep that in mind next time. Weird thing is, in order to find this tiny surface, I tested groups of objects sending them to studio, and then to Maxwell render. Everytime, the render failed until I removed that object. So your suggestion at a) didn't seem to work when I tried it. 2. I found the export to layers to be a real problem if it's checked and you send a job that contains emitters and other materials in the same layer. Thanks again, Allan
pylon
Hi Allan, With Maxwell for formZ 3.2.0.6, there are now options to both "Merge Layers" and "Duplicate Structure." The latter is what you were requesting. (Display Options>Maxwell>Scene tab) http://forums.formz.com/index.php?/topic/3042-new-maxwell-for-formz-early-build-3206/ Try it!
