8.5.1 issues with Maxwell

 Maxwell was crashing Form.z 8.5 constantly whenever I tried to use Translate Shaded Best Match on my material palette.  Mostly when I hit the preview button to see the end result in my material palette.  So i did the following:

 

Updated to Form.z 8.5.1

Updated to Maxwell 3.1.99.11

Updated to maxwell plug in 3.2.0.3

 

Same issue applies.  Set up my material in Form.z as I like it.  Usually by assigning Plastic as my material hint with a varying degree of specular reflection.  Hit Maxwell Material button in material tab to adjust it to see if I can get Best Match.  Hit preview button.  CRASH every time! Very consistent. 

 

Once Again, I am under a deadline because I actually work for a living.  So I am again reverting back to version 8.0.2 to see if I can get back to something that I can use right now.  If not then it is back to Form.z 6.7 and Renderzone to get my clients something they can present immediately.  When I bid a project I do not usually factor in the possibility that I will waste 10 to 20 hours of troubleshooting software incompatibility.  20 years ago maybe but not now.

Thank you for your report about material previews not working in formZ 8.5 on Windows with the existing plugin. We have contacted ADS about this, and expect that the issue will be resolved soon.

 

Compatibility between existing, publicly-released Maxwell plugins and new formZ "dot" releases is almost always not an issue. (In fact, I believe this is the fist time there has been an issue of this sort.)

 

For now, work in 8.0.2 with the publicly released plugin.

We and the developers at ADS have been trying to reproduce this today, and have not had any success in duplicating what you are reporting, with either the beta 3.2.0.3 or release 3.1.1.6.  (There is no 'Best Match' material hint, but if you mean 'Closest Match', that hint is only provided for compatibility with old projects, not new ones. Use 'Realistic Match' instead in new projects... you should see a message to this effect when invoking Closest Match. This has nothing to do with stability, though, only render efficiency.)

 

Please provide a formZ project file that demonstrates this issue, along with any necessary dependencies, and we will look into it.

We have still not received you files. We are not reproducing this issue here.

 

I am not sure why you have trouble sending us project files. If you provide files, and the developers can reproduce it, a problem gets fixed ASAP. Being able to reproduce the issue is critical; it can't be fixed otherwise. Even if it "happens with any project" from your perspective, we still need it to resolve the issue.

 

Also, please run the command "Extensions> Maxwell Render> Forum" and post the resulting text here, so we can test on a system equivalent to yours.

Please send a simple formZ project which reproduces the issue, along with all dependencies, such as MXMs, bitmap textures, etc. Please ZIP the project and dependencies and send via Dropbox (or equivalent) to pylon_support.jpg

 

Also, please run the command "Extensions> Maxwell Render> Forum" and post the resulting text here, so we can test on a system equivalent to yours.

We will investigate why this might be happening and report back with a solution.

Dubi,

 

You only included the formZ project. We need all the dependencies: textures, mxms, HDRIs, etc.

 

Use formZ's Save A Copy As... to collect all images referenced by formZ.

Use Extensions> Maxwell Render> Workstation Transfer to collect all Maxwell dependencies.

 

Please put all the resulting assets in the dropbox folder, and then post again.

Hi Markus,

 

There is no 8.5.1 (yet). I think Andrew meant 8.5.0.1.

 

Also, I believe what the Dubi and Andrew were reporting above was a "formZ  is not responding" alert from windows (not a crash) during preview generation. Rather that wait it out (I could take some time to respond), they were force quitting the application. Again, this should be resolved with early build 3.2.0.6, and we encourage users to try it out.

Dubi,

 

If you check the exact same file you emailed Pylon before (the one that was fixed with the beta), do you still have the problem with that file?

 

If that file is fine but another is not, please submit the other file so Pylon can investigate it...
