Beta 4 Boolean Crash

Recommended Posts

When a boolean operation is performed between an intersecting cube and sphere problems occur in the latest beta. With a Union or B-Split operation the program crashes. With a Difference or Intersection operation both objects ghost but the no resulting object is created. A crash log has been sent.

Steps to reproduce:

1. Create a simple cube.

2. Intersect it with a simple sphere.

3. Perform one of the above boolean operations.

Can anyone else reproduce this?

Edit: Crash is a Program Exception Access Violation. It also happens with 2 Spheres.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your report, we have found a case where we can reproduce this.  If you use the Trim / Split tool with the Trim First Object and Stitch options, you should be able to work around this until we get this corrected.

Note with the Trim / Split tool, the part you click on is the part you keep, so you can do a Union, Intersection, or Difference depending on what part of the object you click, and is some cases using Wireframe will help with clicking on the desired part (at least when doing Differences or Intersections).

Thanks again for your report, we will get this corrected ASAP.

I'm having similar problems with trim and split.

1. create a cube

2. create a line

3. trim and split command, using split with line and stitch.  Nothing happens.

4. crash

5. reports have been sent

Hi Gumby,

We are not able to reproduce this.  Can you please send or post a FMZ.zip file so we can test with your file?

Also, we checked our emails and we don't see anything from you.  Where did you send the reports, and from which name?

What is occurring with 8.0, and 8.5 is the same. I've discovered the following with trim and stitch, or split and stitch.  These functions aren't working in the front view, back view, or when the working plane is in the  xz view.  In all other views it seems to fine.

You shouldn't need a file.  I created a 6" cube from 0,0,0,  to 0,0,6/0,6,0/0,0,6. Then a single line to cut with. That's my file.

Hi Gumby,

Ok, we have verified that there can be an issue with using the Split Stitch with the ZX plane when using a Facetted line, thanks for your report, we will get this corrected.

However, we are not getting any crashes, and we have not received any crash reports from you (that we know of).  Can you please email a crash log directly to us at support@formz.com and include a file that is crashing for you so we can test with that here?

Thanks in advance.
