letsknow
just upgraded from 6 to 8 and am trying to import a dwg file and the arcs are really jagged, in v6 there was option called display option, this seems to have disappeared... i have tried pushing the slider to both ends on v8 but both are pretty jagged. how can i get the arc and circles to be more defined. thanks A
Tech
Hi A, The Display Resolution is still there. Get the Pick Tool, Select All, click the Attributes Tab of the Pick Options, change the Basic Attributes to Display Resolution, and you can adjust the resolution there (try Simple 50% perhaps). Does that help? If you haven't checked the Migration Guide, this -- and lots of other useful information can be found there: http://forums.formz.com/index.php?/topic/19-formz-v7-8-migration-guide-interface-improvements-from-formz-6/
letsknow
thanks for that, it helped but its no where near perfect... if i import the dwg into v6 its fine, in v8 i still looks a mess. i even tried opening the imported v6 version into the v8 and that still goes all jagged, even the text goes crazy!. is there not a way when importing the file to say make it good quality, the slider in the import seems to make no difference. letsknow
sorry meant to say the files are coming from miniCAD (converted to DWG) if that makes any difference?
rob
the slider in the import seems to make no difference. Yes, that slider is broken in the latest version, but you can set it for any Smooth tool before, or via the Attributes after. If you have set after and it is still bad, is it really far from the origin? If so, does moving it closer to the origin help? And if not, you should post the file so Support can check it out... Thorsten
try to move the drawing near to 0;0;0. maybe its to far away lost in space... this solves the problem with jagged imported cad drawings to me.
letsknow
moving it nearer, does seem to work. thank you.
palarsen
Perhaps FormZ can "remember" the world coordinates form the imported file, and use it when exporting, so we can communicate with a standard origo. But still work near a "temporary" origo in formZ with nice looking lines? VectorWorks has this solution. Centre at import, but remember world coordinates! It would be such a great help, and time/concentration/workaround saver
Tech
Gentlemen, Yes, the OpenGL display can degrade if you are very far from the origin. If you know the distance, in the Import Options, you can set a Transformation to automatically move the objects -- and the "inverse transformation" will automatically be set in the Export Options to "restore the original coordinates." Thanks for your report of the Display Resolution slider not affecting the Import, we will get this corrected. As Rob notes, you can just set it for any tool prior to importing, and that resolution will be used when the file is imported. (Or you can always change it afterwards if you like.)
