Just want to connect two lines

Bog

Recommended Posts

Hi, I used to be a formz expert about 15 years ago.  I keep googling around for how to simply connect two lines together (two points). I hear talk about the "Connect Lines" tool, but I can't find it.  I'm running the latest Formz free.  I don't want to read the entire manual to find this, it seems like a simple thing, that's all I need, and I'm familiar with formz otherwise,

thanks,

Hi Bog,

Welcome to the forum.  With formZ Jr or formZ Pro, you simply use the Join Lines tool to join them.  formZ Free does not have line editing tools, but you can either just trace them, or if there is  a gap between the end points, just draw in a new 2d vector line (or other) with the Join to Existing option:

Does that help?

My god, that's amazing. I can't just select two points and connect them? Wow.  Um... ok I'm gonna go get blender I guess. Too bad because I probably would have bought the commercial form-z since I know it well, but not being able to connect two lines is kind of ridiculous.

Anyway though, Moderator, thanks,

uh, delete one point and draw a new line with join and done?

Oh, wait, that's way to hard for free...

uh, what if I have two very complicated large lines? That's too hard for free.

As mentioned above, FormZ Pro and Junior have the line editing tools and I think are much better than before.

You get a hell of a lot of tools for a fast solid modeller like FormZfree.

Hi Bog,

Yes, as Rob notes, simply delete one of the end points of the complicated lines where they are coincident (if they are coincident, or do nothing if there is a gap).  Then just draw the line between the two end points as shown above and they will both be joined.

This should be very quick and easy -- and while we would like to give all tools to everyone, we do need to fund future development and support.  And as Des notes, you get a LOT for free with formZ Free!
