Lighting under shelving

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I am trying to recreate a light effect under some shelves - Am I starting in the right place by playing with a line light?

Yes, Tech, I have played this way too but do you think things like this are mostly 'cheats' created in photoshop?

I always presume these things have been created in cad with lighting?

Thanks and I will keep playing :)

You certainly can use a line light as we discussed via email, but that will add a fair bit to the render time, whereas using a transparent glowing object, or a "gobo map" (or perhaps even adding the effect in photoshop) can be as effective but faster...

Here is the way I will do that. If you want the glow to be bigger, I will add a grow transparency map to cheat it. Like ZTech said, line light adds more rendering time. Hope this helps.

Do you have Use or Approximate set in the RenderZone options (you need Use).

Also, with walls that dark, you may need a brighter light...

Ahhh Tech, yes, was set to approximate - once again a new thing learnt today and once again I realise how 'deep' Form Z is but great when you finally recreate things.

I do not know where I would be without you all !!

All your kind advice and knowledge is a god send for someone like me, huge thanks once again.

Make sure you have the shadow on in the display options. And here is the fmz file I created. If you dont mind, upload your file here and I can take a quick peek and see what can be done to fix that :)
