DennisA
Great this file is reposted. I will retest with 12 & 24 processors & post results in 8.5.4. Justin may be a good idea to also check the old sweet spot 6 & 8 cpu in 8.5.
DennisA
Glad to see status bar was added to imager. The bottom of window was cut short.

I noticed in Activity Monitor that when 24 CPU were selected it only used 12 CPU's for about 98% of render time
DennisA
Should these times also be similar results if rendered in fmz app?
DennisA
FYI my posted time 12:15:47 = 12 minutes:15 seconds
Tech
Hi Dennis, Yes, the Imager and rendering directly in formZ should give similar times.

DennisA
Just got new MacBook Pro maxed out-it ran a touch slower then my 24 CPU 12 core. 12:11:09 Xeon Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010) OS 10.11.5 used 24 CPU 12:11:08 Xeon Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010) OS 10.12.5 used 24 CPU 12:10:28 Xeon Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010) OS 10.11.5 used 12 CPU 12:10:29 Xeon Mac Pro 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (Mid 2010) OS 10.12.1 used 12 CPU 12:12:08 Intel MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) OS 10.12.1 2.9 GHz Quad Core Intel Core i7 used 8 CPU
bluemonkey
Just thought I'd try to see how my current setup was doing Previous FormZ 7 (build 8923) 13:35 Xeon 3.5 Ghz 2013 MacPro 6 Core OSX 10.9.5 Current FormZ 8.5.4 (build 9837) 10:46 Xeon 3.5 Ghz 2013 MacPro 6 Core OSX 10.11.12 I've been holding off upgrading to the latest 8.5 build until I've got a few projects out of the way
Justin Montoya
Update v8.5.6 09:54 XEON 3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro OSX 10.10.5 v8.5.6 12-CPU 10:15 XEON 3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro OSX 10.10.5 v8.5.6 24-CPU Tech, results are basically the same from v8.5.4 as shared above. It would appear that for now, we are best setting the CPU to the physical cores and not the hyper-threaded threads.
Tech
Hi Justin, Ok, thanks for the updated numbers. It looks like this may be the case only when using the 12 core X Hyperthread = 24 core situation, and in that case you are right that you can save a few seconds by limiting it in this case. Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, we will see what we can do to improve this.
Jaakko
Hi! I have updated my PC from Win 7 to Win 10, same hardware. Rendering speed seems slightly slower for some reason, but not much. formZ 8.5.6 Edited December 16, 2016 by Jaakko
