Glad to see finally times down compared to earlier fmz builds took up to 1.5hrs using 24 CPU's

Seems 12 CPU ad fastest time. I noticed in Activity Monitor that when 24 CPU were selected it only used 12 CPU's for about 98% of render time

Just got new MacBook Pro maxed out-it ran a touch slower then my 24 CPU 12 core.

Just thought I'd try to see how my current setup was doing

 

Previous

FormZ 7 (build 8923)

13:35   Xeon   3.5 Ghz   2013 MacPro 6 Core   OSX 10.9.5

 

Current

FormZ 8.5.4 (build 9837)

10:46   Xeon   3.5 Ghz   2013 MacPro 6 Core   OSX 10.11.12

 

I've been holding off upgrading to the latest 8.5 build until I've got a few projects out of the way

Update v8.5.6

 

09:54       XEON        3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro         OSX 10.10.5     v8.5.6  12-CPU

 

10:15       XEON        3.46ghz 12-Core Mac Pro         OSX 10.10.5     v8.5.6  24-CPU

 

Tech, results are basically the same from v8.5.4 as shared above.  It would appear that for now, we are best setting the CPU to the physical cores and not the hyper-threaded threads.

Hi Justin,

 

Ok, thanks for the updated numbers.  It looks like this may be the case only when using the 12 core X Hyperthread = 24 core situation, and in that case you are right that you can save a few seconds by limiting it in this case.

 

Thanks again for bringing this to our attention, we will see what we can do to improve this.  ;)
