Soft Selection tool for place where it's appropriate (generative tools, subd tools, general mesh editing): add ability to do random selections via a Pick tool selection window.  known as “soft select” in other applications I believe.   Offer options for random percentage of objects to be selected (via numeric input and slider).  Also offer a gradient map option so that one could select more objects on one side of the section (or however the gradient map is drawn - could be radial wavy, etc.).  This feature would really go work well with the recently introduced generative design tools.

If a layer is hidden, then we should have the option for the objects on that layer to also be hidden in the object palette.
The object palette could be greatly reduced in a flash, having only the objects of "visible" layers.

I'd love to see some sort of implementation of UV mapping that's as intuitive and interactive as all the other mapping tools in formZ... Of course by its nature UV mapping is anything but Intuitive but if anyone can do it it's ADS...

Yes, we will adjust formZ to open these old files in the future.  There is a ton of manual labor involved to do that, though (which is why it hasn't been done already).  You can also use v7.3.4 to open and resave the files if you don't want to use v6.  If you are using OS X 10.10 or later, just make sure to apply the Hot Fix:

    Hi Camilo,
Welcome to the forum, and thanks for your suggestions, we will consider these for the future.
formZ does have an SDK so it is possible for others to create plugins for tools and features as you suggest.  Our new SDK for v8.5 is just about ready for release, but it is currently possible to use the previous v7 SDK for anything that existed in the older versions (i.e., not yet possible to modify Veronoi, but creating a custom Brick Wall would be possible).  If you have any programming inclinations, feel free to check that out:
You can control some of the appearance of the Project Window, the tool icons and background via the File Menu: Project Settings: Appearance, or the Edit Menu: Preferences: Palettes:

We will see if we can add further control for that for the future as well.  Please let us know if you have any further questions or suggestions, and again, welcome to the forum!

Yes, the original guide needs to be maintained so the temporary guide is unnecessary.  Thanks for the reminder, we will get this adjusted for the future.

The only way I could see a shortcut working for this is if it were the Command key, or Shift key, and that was able to be specified for the 'Derive' tools where Ghosting, or Deleting, or Keeping is necessary.  Kind of like how you can toggle  'Perpendicular to Reference plane' while using the Draw or Shapes tools with the Command key.  Or how you can toggle 'Copy' while using the Transform tools with the Option key.
This got brought up recently in another thread, and it would be great if these sort of shortcuts could be specific to the current tool type selected.

I agree.  We've been missing the ability to easily rotate objects back to Ortho that are at an arbitrary angle since v7.  We should not have to draw a temporary guide to do this.  The automatic guide that pops up 'forgets' Ortho as soon as you begin to rotate.  If it stayed available as one of the snaps, it would work perfectly.  I believe this is a bug in the rotation guide tool.   In fact... it was supposed to be fixed...

    Hi Chris,
Yes, Command Space is the default key shortcut for creating a temporary guide -- but Apple has also recently added that key shortcut as a Spotlight Search, so if you have that Apple shortcut set, it will execute that function instead of the one defined in formZ.  If you want to keep that as your Spotlight Search, you can set a different shortcut for formZ via the Edit Menu: Key Shortcuts:

    Hi David,
How about if we add an option to the View Palette: Context Menu for Update View.  Then you can right click on the name of any view, choose that command, and it will then be resaved with the current view parameters.  Would that do what you want?

    hmm, kind of.
It would be great if attributes are attached to objects by choice. for example, using a check box-- like the current functionality in Analysis display. It is only shown when checked(activated). so an object would only inherit an attribute-set if it is checked.
this would enable a more streamlined and accurate data model--A door will only inherit "door attributes" and not also "walls". this will also eliminate selection filters and post processing of the CSV file.
Is this something that can be baked in the next patch?

    Hi Skip and Chris,
Thanks for your suggestions and reports, we will see if these features can be added for the future.  For now the solution is to use the Subdivision Swap command to restore the original cage, and use the regular modeling tools with that to achieve what you want.  Then you can Swap back the SubD object to get the desired results.  (Of course this is an extra step and doesn't allow you to dynamically see the results, so we will see what we can do for the future.)
