    Justin,

I do intend on updating the MIMI script.  not quite as flashy as a whole folder, but I suppose if there is a way of determining that the file is an image or not, it could be added to it.

Other things I would like to do to it,  is import images with a base material.

Anyone try the HTC Vive yet?  For those who are not aware, this is the competitor to the Oculus Rift.  What distinguishes it is that it is full room-scale VR, walking around inside of a virtual space.  It is amazing.

Autodessys should really be getting into this for the future.  The dream scenario would be a new 3d modeling interface for FormZ, in 3d space using motion controllers.  Both of the gaming engines Unity3d and Unreal Engine already have new prototype VR interfaces where you build games in virtual worlds for the Vive and Oculus Rift.

Imagine modeling with FormZ, not through a 2d screen/interface at all, but inside of a 3d world itself, interacting with scale and space directly....

Don't bother with Form.z skies.  Not very realistic and a little bleak looking.  Just use your own skies from photos of from the internet.  In Fom.z under the Renderzone tab go to Scene- Background- choose Alpha channel and then go to Postprocess and select Apply Alpha Channel.  Then when you render your scene and open it in Photoshop you will see the Alpha channel in the Channel palette.  Right click on it and it will load the channel.  Select inverse and then hit delete and you will have your model on a transparent background..  Now you just have to select an appropriate background and sky.  Hope this helps.

Working late on a Sunday night  is never a good time to start learning new program tricks.  Good luck.

Would it be possible or interesting to have some sort of semi automatic 3D printing plugins?
I am thinking about things like dovetail joints, pegs hinges etc. With possibility to set up tolerances between the parts. I know it can be done manually but how great would it be to have for instance a slice tool or a version of the extend tool with a parametric join option? Bringing the concept of the unfolding tool up to date with current prototyping tech?

It would be a feature to set FZ apart from the competition!

The return key should act as a carriage return,   it is the Enter key on the keypad that should execute the OK.    Many, Many other apps behave that way.

Below is a link to an SDK for 8.5.3. We are calling it beta because not all of the examples and docs are up to date yet.

Be aware of the change in the size of integers for 64 bit support that started with v8 and the natural differences between OS X and Windows. On OS X by default a "long" is a 64 bit integer where as on windows it is a 32 bit integer. To avoid any confusion in the API we have introduced fzrt_int and fzrt_unsigned_int for all integers in the API. We recommend you do the same with your local variables.

The only change that you should need to make in your code is to replace "unsigned long” with “fzrt_unsigned_int” and "long” with “fzrt_int” (and then get used to using them). Be sure to do it in this order if you use common search and replace techniques or you could end up with "unsigned fzrt_int” in your code which will not be a good thing. You will also need to update your Xcode projects to build x86_64 as well as linking to 64 bit versions of any depended libraries etc.

v8.5.3 is built against the OS X 10.9 SDK with the deployment target to 10.7 to support older OS as best possible.

I think an additional option, not a replacement option would be the key.   This could easily be handled by a script, someday.

I would be happy to do it, so ADS does not need to spend their precious resources.   It would be the perfect feet wetter project too.

My opinion is similar to Justin's in that first impressions to new users are important. Yes, you can make a template and get exactly what you want, but that's something a seasoned user is going to do, not a new user. If someone doesn't like how an interface looks immediately, they are less likely to use the software. Just ask me, the guy who stays away from Rhino.

When you pick a material in the Materials palette, Right Click on it and chose Duplicate, a copy of the material is created, but the original material remains selected. Wouldn't it make more sense that the duplicate is selected? Every time I do this I get caught by it. I duplicate the material then start editing the Image Map or properties and then realize that the materials in the scene are changing, when what I really want to do is change the new materials and apply it to some different objects.

I usually duplicate a material because I want essentially the same material but want to make some changes and then use it, not make a copy that will remain intact while I change the original. When you Save As a model, you find yourself working in the new model, not working on the old one.

In that sense I guess Duplicate behaves like Save a Copy, but it just feels counterintuitive to me.

That's so funny that you post that - the G700s is what I bought Friday afternoon!  And I agree, with the Logitech software, it's pretty crappy.  But with SteerMouse, I love it!  I went with a gaming mouse because I liked the idea of having a lot of buttons available and the G700s button layout fit my hand better.  So far, I haven't noticed any issues with the mouse and it works perfectly.  I already have several profiles set-up in SteerMouse (which I'm a big fan of now) and each works flawlessly!

I'm on OS 10.10 over here - holding off from moving to 10.11 for as long as I can.  If it hadn't been for another piece of software, I'd still be on 10.8 Mountain Lion!

¢hris £und reacted to Tech in Create Circle or Arc tangent to three lines
We have had a number of requests in the last week to have a tool in formZ that creates a Circle or Arc tangent to three lines. We will add this to a future version, but until then, here is a little plugin that does this (require v8.5.3 or later)

To add to your formZ download and decompress the .zip file. copy the "arc_lines" folder to the /plugins directory of your formZ installation.

The tool should appear in the Extensions Tool Row at the bottom of the modeling tool palette. You may need to Reset your Workspace (or add it via the Tool Manager) if it does not show up automatically.

To use the tool, select the tool, pick 3 lines or edges and it makes a tangent arc or circle as set in the Tool Options. The Trim option only applies to lines (i.e. if you pick edges of a solid, they will not be trimmed).

    Enjoy!

I would love to have an integrated Calculator.     Scientific Calculator for that matter.

One where clicking on a myriad of fields would automatically populate it and the results could also automatically populate.
Such as to be able to pull data from any of the measurement display fields.
Should have access to the SDK so that we can add our own scripts and it be usable.

Floating palate and one with the measurement tool options if people are crowded for space.

    Cheers!

    Hi bdurbrow,

Sorry but v7 is a 32 bit app and only supports 32-bit plugins. 64-bit support started with v8. We will be posing an updated SDK for v8.5.3 that is compatible with Xcode 7 as soon as it is available.

Thanks and sorry for the delay.
