    There seems to be a clarification needed about precisely what does and does not work in the SDK provided.  The previous "SDK" included both scripting and API-level bindings for the app, so it isn't so surprising that folks seeking scripting expect the SDK to contain that functionality.
     
    For the record, while I'm interested in API-level access and plugin development, as a hobbyist user I definitely am also more than a bit disappointed that after so long we still have no scripting functionality.  Witnessing both Rhino and MoI3D users adding visual dev environments on top of their extensive scripting environments hasn't improved my feelings.  Autodessys need to hurry up the process of re-enabling scripting -- at the current rate of progress, by the time Form-Z again supports regular scripting, the others will sport user-to-app direct neural interfaces.

    The simple answer is no.
    Mating is not just aligning objects together it also means that there are parametric relations between objects.
    For example if you mate a pin with a hole, so that they have overlapping centre axis, the pin will always stay inside the hole even if you rotate the object with the hole to a different angle or possition.
    The purpose of mates is to test real world mechanical moment.

    Hi ADS,
     
    Any news on allowing double-clicked objects in objects palette to invoke edit attributes, even when the object's layer is locked, ghosted, or invisible? (See earlier post in this thread.) I would still use this nearly every day...

    Andrew,
     
      Put all those lines onto a separate Layer.   Do a hidden Line with the settings in it's dialog that you want... export that image.  
      Composite with Photoshop with that layer set to Darken, or Multiply.  (for simplicity)
     
       if you need an extra layer of control, paste the hidden line into an Alpha Channel, then apply that å-Channel to an empty visible layer on top of your base rendering.
     
     
    I know it isn't the answer you were hoping for, but it is effective.

    Hello.
    I `d like to suggest an option to prepick several objects at once not only with Pick tool, but the any appropriate. Say I use Group tool which means I suppose to have at lest two objects to group. It is OK with two but if I want to group a plenty I`d prefer to pick them with lasso or frame in Pick tool manner. Currently I have to use Pick tool, than switch to Group tool and click. Same happens with any tool that uses mass perpick: Loft, Terrain, Union, name it.

    This might end up in the scripting/plugin forum.
     
    I do a lot of hand sketching over a hidden line perspective drawings.
    With larger scenes, the Hidden Line Display mode takes FOREVER. I dont need vectors, just a raster image.
    I was hoping for a shaded mode/no materials rendering mode but it didn't happen.
     
    However, I discovered that if I change all my layers to have a material override and set the material to a catcher,  I get a great, fast Hidden Line Display.
    The only problem is,  I still want to use layer overrides for some other materials ( component doors and windows for example.) when I go back to full color.
     
    I would love a script/plugin that collects the material override state of each layer, saves it to a list, and then sets the override to a catcher material. When toggled off, it can restore the layers to their previous states.
     
    OR ADS, add a check box under shaded mode  for HLD that removes all color and texture from the scene.

    Tech, it would be nice to see before the movement starts.   
     
    This is something I wish for too.  I would also like to see the copy mode at the cursor.
    Cant tell you how many times I go to translate some segment, or point and I get a copy of it.
    even if it is just (any)copy vs self.

    We posted beta 1.13 today. This should fix the iCloud/Google drive access of files (and maybe DropBox but the this less likely to be fully resolved). We also fixed a few crashes that have been reported. We are still working with the suggestions and on some of the rendering issues. Hopefully we will have another update early next week.
     
    If you have installed v1.12, you should receive a notification from TestFlight that the updated app is ready. New installations will be v1.13.

    +1 Global Shortcut with simplified graphic.  The normal arrow in FZ6 was a more simple graphic which rendered more efficiently.  Points also became more fancy and less efficient when shown in great quantity.  Currently objects with >x number of points get a more simple graphic but are still not the super efficient, clean, simple square as they were before.  I would love to have the old option for simpler representations of Points, Direction Arrows And Face Normal Arrows.

    I concur!   
     
    Please bring back the 'Copy From...' feature in materials!  It would also be nice if the Material parameters dialog could close as it did in v6.  The palette approach here is unnecessary, and adds to the cluttered UI.

    If I could add just one feature to take this huge time saver even further, it would be to set each new texture up with specific RenderZone settings (possibly from another material?).  One way it could be done is like a multiple duplicate, but with using each new image file for a new texture as you have done here.   As it is, importing all the texture files is a great help and time saver, but we will still need to go in and adjust all of the textures settings.  Since a lot of my importing is for graphics in tradeshow booths, I can get away with using the same setting for each graphic.  Do you think this would be hard to implement?

    FIrst, download it here.  Then follow along with the images, and instructions below:

    1,  Goto the extensions Menu and select "Run Utility"
    2, Navigate to the scripts folder, then into the MIMI folder to pick MIMI.fsb
    3, A new open dialog will become available (with no indication that it is new)
          navigate to your images folder, note that they will be dimmed (click on "Show all files
    4, Files may still be dimmed, but you will now be able to select all the files you want
          Be careful to choose image files that fZ understands (Don't recall how much error checking I did)
    5, Note that a bunch of new blank materials have been added... No big deal
    6, Change from "Shaded" to "Render Zone"
    7, change all of them...

    1. I have noticed that two finger panning is sometimes inconsistent.  It sort of starts and stops and does not seem fluid at times.  iPad Pro.
     
    2.  Shadows are still quite poor and really obvious.  I built a simple model for testing.  I hope FormZ 9 can solve this issue.  Jagged edges and also issues where the shadow meets the object edge.  See attached edges.  Ground plane is set to not cast shadows.  
     

     
    3.  A dimension tool would be very useful. 
     
    4.  I would assume when adding clipping planes and views that they would be saved.  When I close and reopen the file no new views or clipping planes are present.   
     
    5.  Ambient Occlusion created some "interesting results" in my test model:
     

     
    6.  I am not sure what "Silhouettes" does?  Nothing seems to happen when I choose it.
     
    7.  I also do not see "Multi-Sampling" doing much.  Could be my model is too simplistic?

    Great, yes please. I was delighted to see the export to Illustrator option - no more DWG - but I'd really appreciate minimizing the number of extra steps.
     
    I do a lot of dumb work - profiles for laser cutting, elevations for communication with the modelmaker - and these aren't really projects just quick thingies. Layout mode feels like overhead, I would prefer to go straight from the Modeling workspace to an Illustrator file.

    +1 6.7 Texture mapping is efficient and easily editable.  Combined with Get Attributes and Set Attributes, it becomes even more powerful.  Back in 6.7 I was always hoping for a topology aware Get and Set Attributes tool.  That way texture mapping would be even more efficient, copying texture (etc) attributes from the face of one object to the face of a different object.
     
    Here's an example of a troublesome Set Attributes Tool and Textures:
    Make 2 cubes as shown and reshape the back face of the cube on the right.  Add an image to the material for the larger cube.  Use the Set Attributes tool on the cube on the Right from the cube on the Left.  The reshaped faces in the rear have a different texture group which is not overwritten by the Set Attributes Tool as it would have been previously.  If there was a Texture Mapping Window, the secondary mapping group could easily be deleted manually allowing the whole object to receive the main object group mapping.

    Well, to be fair, not all the threads are mine.    I just jump on it every chance that I can get.   So, no scripting availability for a couple of years now?  or nearly so,  advent of 8.0.
     
     
    yes, the Beta has been available for 13 days.  If I were interested in being a Coder, rather than a Designer, I would be all over it.  
     
    Bring back scripting, and let those of us who are ok with doing so do the little stuff, and you can get back to the big stuff.

    Tech,
     
    It would be immeasurably helpful if a materials Pick List were available for the purpose of importing files from other applications and copy/Paste into a new project.
     
    What I show in the image below is when Copy/Pasting into another project
    (BTW, conflicts come up even when Copy/Pasting into the same project (Line weights??)
     
    But this same kind of thing would be very useful when importing from other applications (especially when you fix the import and the template File issue)
