The Multi Image Map Importer script that I wrote (MIMI) will run under 8.5.3 if you follow these steps.
FIrst, download it here.  Then follow along with the images, and instructions below:

    MIMI.zip

Text instructions to go with the images:
1,  Goto the extensions Menu and select "Run Utility"
2, Navigate to the scripts folder, then into the MIMI folder to pick MIMI.fsb
3, A new open dialog will become available (with no indication that it is new)
navigate to your images folder, note that they will be dimmed (click on "Show all files
4, Files may still be dimmed, but you will now be able to select all the files you want
Be careful to choose image files that fZ understands (Don't recall how much error checking I did)
5, Note that a bunch of new blank materials have been added... No big deal
6, Change from "Shaded" to "Render Zone"
    7, change all of them...

double check your snapping.  When I first switched to 8.x (skipped 7)   I habitually was turning all my snaps off.   Finally, I removed the key short cut to do so.

Make sure you are aware that "points"  and "Key Points" differ.

Also, Check your "tolerance" setting in the snapping palette.  each user here is probably expecting something different.   I think mine is the default at 10 pixels.

    hope this helps!

ADS, you guys should pay Chris for this and maybe refine it with a few more options.  Seriously,  most of the other users will never think to find a script like this online, and it'd be a crying shame to not offer such a huge time saver to everyone!

I would like to see some sort of template manager built into formZ.

Well aware that I can work around such things manually, however, it would be much more convenient to have fZ know not to save changes to a manual template file back to that file unless opened up manually such as the current 1 template.

    Cheers!

    Hi Kac,

Thanks for the suggestion!  To clarify, let's say you can set a single color to X thickness, another color to Y thickness, and perhaps the objects would show a gradient of colors representing the various thickness of the object?  Is this would you would like to achieve?

I have a hard time believing FormZ would be able to compete as a BIM program.  I would rather see improvements in modeling, render engine, cross CAD platform integration (import/exports), workflow improvements, scripting, non-descructive booleans, a "Grasshopper" alternative, etc.

I think one can turn on or off pop-up palettes.  Icons size is also customizable, but smaller by default would be better.

I agree about the beige, but simply set mine to white.  Default should be white or grey I agree.  I have never been a fan of the black background.

¢hris £und reacted to setz in Trim Tool
The first example shows the test example. The second example shows the desired results of using Trim Tool as it functioned in FZ V6.  The third example uses the current Close Line Tool.

I mentioned the "extra steps" because in V6 the Close Tool had three options; Trim, Join, Connect.  In V8 the Close Line Tool performs only the Connect function.  I would much rather have the Trim Tool be able to function as shown in the second example rather than have the Close Line Tool have the old V6 options added to it - I'm just second guessing how ADS may choose to resolve this, and I have a strong preference.

    Hello Pipo et al,

Thanks for the kind words regarding V-Ray 3 for SketchUp. We have been silent for sure. Not because we are not working hard. There were three major releases over the last few months; V-Ray for Revit and V-Ray 3 for SketchUp and Rhino.

Here is what I can say about V-Ray | formZ:

We had some great user feedback from the private testing that we had to address. Meanwhile with our other V-Ray products launching there were major developments that for the sake of version parity we wanted to make sure we took care of for the initial release of V-Ray for formZ. We are very quickly working towards one the most integrated V-Ray plugins on the market. Trust me when I say it's exciting.

If you're a private tester feel free to email us and we will try to get you updated ASAP. For the rest, we will be sharing more information publicly very, very soon. In fact we wanted to do it last week... So, stay tuned...

    Best,

¢hris £und got a reaction from Kamorkaset in drop beginning and end of NURBS curves
    Tech,

I think I mentioned something like this ages ago, however, would like to do so again.

I would like the options to drop the beginning and ends of what is drawn as NURBS curses (meshes too)
where the beginning and ends would be at where the second point and second to last point have the most effect.
as well as, consider those points as snapping for point snap.

reason for this is the beginning and end points are weighted to 100% and thusly changes the flow of the curve.
where, if planning ahead, one can add two extra points in the controls that don't display in the final curve.

see image for hopeful clarity.  (top example is what I would like, where the bottom is current)

    thanks!

The Trim Tool used to be able to close a single open line.  Can this functionality be reinstated?  The workarounds are very time consuming. It is notable that this used to be an option of the Close Line Tool; which did work, but was a less desirable option because it involved the extra steps of adjusting options within the tool.

¢hris £und reacted to 3dworks in copy and paste geometry among 3d applications project
a very talented software designer, oliver hotz, started this and it would be extremely useful if there was a FZ implementation as well. the idea is to copy and paste geometry directly between different 3d applications like maya, modo, cinema4d etc. - which is somewhat something every designer using many tools always dreamed about..  afaik he made the source available so it would be possible to participate also as external programmer for FZ. what about implementing this as the next 'labo' plugin?

It would be great if you could take an already saved view, select it, and edit it dynamically in the cone of vision, and have it automatically update that views saved parameters, without having to resave a new view.

    It will come!

Problem with the UV suggestion is fZ doesn't have the best UV tools.  Something I would love to see remedied.  But alas, I do have Modo for that.
The other problem is, I would end up having to paint every seam, which would be about as tedious as manually finding them.  Especially since the UV's only count for rendering,  I would have to render it, then translate that manually any way.   Would much rather cod it.

    cheers!

Chris - Yeah, that was me creating a shape, doing an offset outline, then extruding (as opposed to reshaping???).  I'm used to making a shape and being able to bevel with Inset and Shift from a 2d face both inwards and outwards.  I'll wrap my head around it eventually.  Thanks.

    All,

We have updated the 8.5.7 disk images and patches to address the palette issue with secondary displays arranged to the right.

This is the same version and build number, so you will not see a change in the splash screen.

To download the installer, use the link from your license email or send an inquiry to support@formz.com
Thank you for your understanding and patience.
