The script you are looking for is  "n-sweep"  I don't think it will work with the new architecture.  7.x   is probably the last it would work with.
I actually built it for the 6.x architecture.  (technically, I think the 8.5.0.x is where it broke)

From what I have seen, the only scripts that work are the Utility Scripts with no interface.  I am not in front of a computer with fZ installed to test them at this time.  However, you are welcome to play.   (MIMI, is a Utility Script)

I don't know if ADS, has any of these old scripts available on their site any more, so, here is a link to all the ones I have posted.
    http://www.neurascenic.com/extensions/

I am looking forward to ADS opening up the architecture once again... when they do, I will update all of the these, and will have more to offer.
Am very excited to script fZ in Python as well (do hope that they don't lobotomize it's functionality, if they don't the possibilities are astounding)
Don't think we will see it in an 8.x  but  we can hope for a 9.0.0.0

    Best Regards,

¢hris £und reacted to Tech in FZ future
    Hi All,

Sorry for the lack of response here in the last few weeks. We have been absorbed with the response to V-Ray for form•Z and work in progress on an updated 8.6 and new features and collaborations for form•Z 9.

We have received some great feedback on V-Ray for form•Z. We are really excited the results that form•Z users have been able to achieve in a very short time. Some users have requested additional V-Ray features that were not in our original scope. These will be coming soon along with a few adjustments that you would expect with a new product. Some of these are features that you will find in V-Ray for 3D Studio Max, but not V-Ray for SketchUp or V-Ray for Rhino. We are working on compatibility with the form•Z Imager. pkcn, the card you mention should work with V-Ray for form•Z. How did you conclude that it was not working?

Yes we are a small team, but we love what we do and we care for everyone who uses our creations. Please recognize that the development of V-Ray for form•Z was a huge undertaking and investment that we would not have made if we did not believe in the future of form•Z and its users. Chaos Group creates the plugins for the other solutions so you will naturally see more marketing of these solutions on their site. Expect to see more publicity on V-Ray for form•Z in the coming months.

We are certainly not hibernating. The founders are involved in the company so your speculations are misplaced. We all miss Paul and his efforts on this forum. We will try to do better at following the standard he set. Keep in mind that you can reach us by email at support@form•Z.com as well!

Been awfully quiet here in the pasts few months. Any news on version 9.0 and Python Script. Last year when I renewed, I was told by sales that 9.?? probably would be released that Spring.  ---- Still waiting.

I don't want a buggy release, I can wait -- But a update would be nice!!

¢hris £und reacted to snow in formZ folder in Documents...
needs to not be a thing.  There might be some users who actually use this for their organization, but I think the vast majority of users have their own system.  For example, I store everything on a server.

Not to mention, programs that automatically create folders on hard drives are extremely bothersome.  It makes one ponder "what else is this program putting on my computer without my knowledge" which is an unsettling thought.
(no, I don't think formZ does this, but when computer privacy is no longer a automatic guarantee these days, new users might frown on this action).

A solution here would be to let the user decide where to put autosave and texture files.

¢hris £und reacted to snow in Hidden Line needs some more work
Compared to various competitors, formZ's Hidden Line is quite bad.  Often there are extra facets showing which I have to troubleshoot to find the best display resolution and/or faceting scheme (which may or may not work).  Then if I have dimensions in the model, forget it, they look horrible in HL.

Lately I've been exporting my models as DWG and opening them in a--ahem--sketchy competitor.  The hidden line here performs just like a shaded or wireframe mode.  Zero lag when panning or moving the camera, rendered instantly.  Dimensions are clean and I do not need to change any of the options (I almost always have to change options in the dimension styles .  The same model/imported DWG in formZ takes about 10 seconds to generate the HL, which I could live with if I was able to seamlessly move around the model.  But that's completely out of the question, the lag is unbearable.

I know HL was recently improved, and it is indeed better.  But compared to the rest of the pack it's still no where near up to par.

¢hris £und reacted to snow in Tool Simplification / Consistency
I would like to make the suggestion that some tools are removed/simplified/blended/given consistency.

There are a few tools that could use this treatment, but I recently took some time to look at the Extrusion, Reshape, Extend, and Thicken tools when applied to surfaces; all these tools essentially do the same thing, but with a few inconsistencies.

Let's say you have 30 separate square surfaces.  If you want to thicken/extrude/reshape/extend 20 of them, one would pre-pick these surfaces select a tool, then click on the screen to do them all at once.  The interesting thing here is that the RESHAPE tool and the EXTEND tool will unpick the surfaces while EXTRUSION and THICKEN will not.  Naturally, it took me 3 tries to figure this out after trying to use Reshape and Extend before using Extrusion.

It's also interesting that each of the Tool Options are slightly different, so it's not like you can just remove 2 of the tools and let the other tools do their jobs, there has to be some sort of simplification here.

Perhaps you can add all these abilities to one tool?  Let Reshape be given a fixed distance with In, Out, and Center, as well as dynamic, the ability to pre-pick, and also work on smooth objects?  I think that covers all ground for what this tool could do.

¢hris £und reacted to snow in fix duplicate textures when exporting
Create a formZ file with a few of your own textures.  Export the following with textures.

Export to 3DS: 3 versions of each texture
Export to FBX: 2 versions of each texture
Export to OBJ: 2 versions of each texture

This can really (unnecessarily) bloat a project folder when using higher res images.

Also, can the formZ logo stop exporting when it isn't in use (spoiler alert: it's never in use).

¢hris £und reacted to timgarner_10 in Please Add Light Emitting Materials to FormZ
    Hello,
After using some rendering plug-ins like Maxwell & V-Ray, can you please look at adding light emitting materials? I think it'd be a fantastic addition to formZ. It'd definitely help when trying to show lighted logo's or tv screens or even lighted panels (since I can never get the area light to work) or just light up edges like when showing edge lighted acrylic. It seems like some of the formZ lights have always been a little tricky to use and seem to not look the most realistic compared to just having a material emmit light.
    Thanks,

    4.  Could you give an explanation?
    5.  Absolutely!  Could be done with a script, fairly easy, assuming that functionality ever comes back.
    6. Yea, would clean up some time consumption artifacts. would have to deliberately attempt to use, it as I have so habituated myself around not having something like this.
    7. Been wanting to do this as a script myself.  I think I have asked for it in the past as well.  If not, Brilliant!
    8. Don't run into a problem here, but then again most of my work is relatively small. no larger than a small building.

    So,

in my impatience, I am studying Swift.

I see that there are workarounds for getting C/C++ Libraries to work with it.
Just wondering if this would be too much of a stretch with the fZ SDK?
I presume that the current build is C/C++?  or have you differentiated and gone objective-C and C#/.Net?

Also, curious to know if there is any consideration of future development in swift?
As there has been some work for it on windows,
    http://swiftforwindows.codeplex.com

and there is a dist for linux.
    https://swift.org/download/#snapshots

I of course realize that this would be substantial upfront work, but seems that it would also lessen the long term investment.  Would certainly reduce the load on small dev's who would like to add full extensions to fZ

It seems the Materials Palette adds all the materials referenced in Components, increasing significantly their number, uselessly, IMHO. Could that be re-organised? Groups of Materials (perhaps auto group component materials per component) like layers and objects? Flashing red square (not impossible to see black one we have now) when Selecting by Criteria...or even a Window with list and Icon of Materials "currently selected" in that Select by Criteria area. all the suggestions above by other users.+1 Thanks,  Peter

I too, do not use the objects palette, but in extreme conditions. That being said, however, does not negate the great possibilities to having the ability to search in all palettes. I often use the disclosures to hide complex layer structures. If by just typing a few characters in a diesel would open up the disclosures do display the wanted layers, this would greatly reduce time pecking through even the most organized layer structure.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but we really need the ability to search all the list palettes in formZ.  This is done in all of the lists in Visual Studio palettes since 2012, and is really needed in formZ too.

    http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/formz_work_in_progress.html
Please note that you need to be a v8.5 user in order to register and use this version (it will use you 8.5 codes.)

We kindly request that you submit any bug reports, observations, issues, or suggestions directly to support@formz.com so we can make formZ the best it can be!

For those who are wondering....our focus is on formZ v9, but we felt that these incremental improvements were too valuable to wait for.
Thanks in advance, and Happy Modeling!
