palarsen reacted to Tech in 9.2.01 Doesn't work on Monterey 12.3
12.3 has dropped support for Python v.2, which is the cause for the crash. If you manually download and install Python it should get you back up and running. Here is the link to the Python installer: https://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.18/python-2.7.18-macosx10.9.pkg

palarsen reacted to Anwar in A way to make formZ more popular (but you won't like it...)
In terms of AutoDesSys' products what keeps formZ competitive in the rendering arena is their V-Ray plug-in.  Interestingly what makes V-Ray powerful is it's support for NVIDIA - CUDA and RTX, and neither of these technologies is available on the Mac.  PC's are 90% of the market, Macs are 10%.
As long as AutoDesSys continues to support the Mac it means every time they write code they have to write it twice, and test it twice, and ensure cross platform compatibility of the file formats.  So, it stands to reason that formZ could innovate twice as fast if their software engineering effort was cut by 50%.  Considering advanced rendering technologies are only available on Windows it is clearly the platform that must survive.
As I said, you won't like to hear this, but the truth is that if you want formZ to innovate faster then dropping support for the Mac would go a long way to accomplishing this goal.

This assumption is simply not true. Over 95% of the form•Z code base is platform independent and we develop and test on all platforms simultaneously (i.e. not “ported”). The platform dependent code is nearly all related to interface. The file translators are over 99% platform independent. Developing for multiple platforms actually makes the code better as the various development and testing tools can identify different areas for improvement in efficiency and stability.
We have no plans to drop macOS (or Windows).
CUDA and RTX are great technologies for rendering performance, but offer no improvement to the linear double precision nature of modeling operations. We are also disappointed that Nvida is no longer supported on macOS, however the CPU rendering on macOS with V-Ray is very good and handles large models with ease. Performance alone is not the only reason to choose V-Ray as it offers excellent rendering features as well (not all of which are available in RTX rendering).

"Check for update" now shows 9.0.6 as available. Please note that we always wait 24-48 hours after posting a new version before updating the "check for update" notification just to be sure the distribution is sound before mass installations begin. What do you think?  Finally bit the bullet and ordered one of these.  And this is what I have been itching about for python!  Looking to make some dedicated toolsets for creating patterns for the CO2 machine.  Don't know how far I will be able to push it, but I am gonna go for it!

palarsen reacted to ariel in Can Full Shaded Ignore Materials by click?
    Hi there,
    re - FZ 8.6 and FZ 9
Can Full Shaded display ignore materials (not textures), and display the whole model in one tone for example ? and then by a click or a shortcut, have the materials applied again to the real time render ?
Also, Can we shortcut the option to display Textures inside Full Shaded ?
    Thanks

    Great addition, thanks ADS!
Doing some tests, I noticed that the smooth objects are converted to faceted... I hope this can be corrected in the next version.

Changing the name of a view or layer to an existing name, no longer leads to repeated messages about the duplicate name.
The fillet tool is applied to the selected point for certain objects.

I like to visit this forum very often to pick up tips, see what others are doing and if I can help other users in any way, it's like a daily habit. As an avid user for many years, I can't help but notice that there has been a lull in the amount of modelling tips, queries regarding to the actual 3d modelling and rendering. I realise that many users here have been around a long time, are seasoned users of FormZ and don't need the advice as much as before, but there is so much talent at our disposal here relating to varying disciplines.
I think ADS need encouragement too and it'd be nice to see some good things now and again from the users (Antons FormZ models and Pipos WIPs for example), especially in the times we're in at the moment. I know some of you are trying to help ADS with bug submissions and suggestions but maybe try to deliver it in a more positive way? Some here are like spoiled kids crying because they have to do four clicks instead of one and expecting a magic red button that does all..
And no, I'm not having a bad day today 😁

This is simply not true. Many of the issues that you reported have been addressed. Most of the other issues we could not reproduce. Sorry it took longer than normal to answer your email but please understand that we are all working in less than ideal circumstances these days! You did receive a response today.
