    Thank you ADS!
We installed the app that seems working well.

Remember to ensure the normals are correct on the planes on to which you are scattering
Important also to ensure the world coordinates of the maxwell grass objects (MXS objects) are 0,0,0 otherwise the scattered grasses will not locate properly
Image below shows example of the grass models used in the render sample
NOTE : when imported into studio all these objects occupy 0,0,0 so they will be overlapping in the viewport
I have moved them here to indicate the relative sizes and variation used for the render

    Prepare geometry
The main drawback with scattered grass is the edging to driveways or curbs
Method requires setting up the geo with 3 sections -
A - main grass plane edge with no scatter ,
B - outer thin perimeter of grass on which you scatter small grass objects to maintain a reasonably straight edge  ( I usually scatter 2-3 different smaller grass objects )
C - inner body of grass on which you scatter larger grass objects and clover etc ( I usually scatter 5-6 different grass objects plus say 2 flower objects )
Basically create the plane that requires grass (A) then offset 10 cm and 30cm to create B and C
A, B and C are all mapped with a basic grass texture , this will only be visible on the edge of the grass.

pkcn got a reaction from Justin Montoya in Why isn't formz more popular?
Ariel is right! We use or try a lot of different modelers, and we do not find a Fz equivalent. We use it as a primary conceptual tool, for almost 20 years now, and are still satisfy by the app and the customer support. Manythanks ADS

pkcn got a reaction from Des in Continued FormZ & Maxwell development for V9
    Hello,
We just received this message from Next Limit:
    Dear Patrick,
We are contacting you because we have finally made a decision about the formZ plugin development.

GOOD NEWS: WE WILL CONTINUE SUPPORTING AND DEVELOPING formZ FOR MAXWELL 5!!

We estimate a month to release Maxwell 5 for formZ 8, and then they launch formZ 9, we will start developing this plugin for Maxwell 5 too!!

Thank you for your patience, understanding and trust.

    Kind regards, "
we have now to be patient and cross fingers!

pkcn got a reaction from graham_g in the instant alternative to hidden line
We definitively need Hidden Line rendering as we export the result as 2D drawing into Autocad.
However, two main concerns about this:
    - Before FZ 7, we were able to export into Autocad at right scale, using the 2D drawing module (copy from 3D modeler and paste to 2D module and then export in DWG). It is nearly impossible now...
    - Hidden Line produce a lot of duplicate lines that we need to erase manualy in Autocad - a nightmare!
Can we expect some improvement in FZ 9?

pkcn got a reaction from AHTOH in Maxwell vs Vray
We are using both rendering apps for architectural projects integrated on the same Fz license. We are happy with that workflow:
For final results we use Maxwell because we are able to compute many different views with different lights at the same time. Even if Maxwell require a long time to compute one image, we win time for several images, without the need to be in front of the workstation. So, we launch calculations during the night and, in the morning, we have all the views that we need. With a good HDR light, we dont need a lot of test and the result is always good enough at the first time. We just carefully set the light parameters into Fire, to be sure that the project is well lit. Also, the material editor is great as you can start with preset material and change the texture or some settings easily.
Vray is great for speed and early project' views. We appreciate its integration within Fz. We use it as a conceptual tool and try a lot of material arrangement. Clients are happy because they have a good feeling of what the project could be. We use the standard settings for exterior scene and it is very quick. Also,  It is easy to share the files as VRay has a bigger user base than Maxwell.
Our main concern is that we have to produce a copy of each material (and  two copies of the same project, one named with suffix M, the other with suffix V). It is a problem when there are some changes on the model. A compatibility between materials description would be appreciate here !

pkcn got a reaction from Des in FormZ Mobile viewer Update?
It is along time that this app has been released. Can we expect some update with new functions?
Is an Android app sister on the way too?
We use it a lot to make some outstanding presentation to our client....

pkcn got a reaction from David Lemelin in FZ future
We finally decided to use both version: FZ 8.5.7 with Maxwell plugin for clients jobs and FZ 8.6.0.1 (10027) with VRay plugin for testing and less critical deadline. The first one is more stable and has the ability to launch several renderings overnight. However, we would like a bigger mxm library. The results are very nice but at time expens . The second provides a more integrated UI (even with some annoying overlap windows), good material library (with additional vismat collection) and speed but VRay has to be integrated in FZ Imager for launching several renderings. Sadly the GPU (Quadro P4000) is useless with both plugins.

We are old FZ users (for more than 15 years now - FZ 2.5), like many other in this forum (old users only remains now?), and still happy to work with. Too many bugs in the last updates and irritated UI require more and more patient however.
What is new now, Autodessys seems not very prompt to adress these problems and to answer at many threads of this forum.

So, our question: Is FZ became a dead end choice and we should change our workflow? Or is FZ able to become again the more advanced modeler we knew and like?

pkcn got a reaction from Santoskes in Frame tool
    Hello,
The frame tool allows you only circle section (with choosing the resolution).
It will be nice to have choice beetween different sections (triangle, square or any polygonal shape, choosing the number of side).
Ok, it is allways possible to use other tool, such as "sweep along path" but frame tool is very quick end easier to use.
    Thks
