It's a marijuana growing cabinet. Very legal and very cool in Canada now FormZ and Vray has been a massive part of it's development, still fine tuning things but I'm pretty pumped about it.

Something I was doing as part of a personal project.... thought it looked pretty slick for something that took about 10 minutes to set up after I had the model done.

Wow, that rendering is spot on. Nice work!

The shirt is a bit washed out.... was rushing to run off a bunch of different renders. It's just a flat texture map with a transparency.

    V-Ray Render Farm

Hey Justin, I have a project in the pipes that will need me to render a 10' x 10' image for a life size graphic display. Just curious to know how one exports as a VRSCENE ? and would you be kind enough to run a test for me to see how long something like that would be for you to render ?

Haha, I was scrolling up and saw the Renderzone image first and was thinking... meh, that's a bit naff. LOL Vray one looks a million times better... nice job!

I like the sound of this. I'm going to see if I can figure out... I may come back with some questions. In the mean time, here's an example image I did lately....

    Maxwell vs Vray

So I finally upgraded to FormZ 8 and was sniffing around both Vray and Maxwell. I used to have a Maxwell license when it first came out just to play around with it but I could never streamline it into my workflow because it was too slow. How is everyone's experience with either package and if you've tried both, which do you prefer ? Which one is easier to set up a scene ? Particularly interior work. Many thanks!

    Candy Bar Modeled with Subdivision

k, ignore me.... you actually have to right click on an existing vertical line to get a horizontal sequence

    Candy Bar Modeled with Subdivision

FZNoob, I seem to be stumbling a bit here. When I "Insert Sequence" it give me a horizontal control and vertical control... Before & After....

    Vray Sunlight

So I absolutely LOVE Vray.... I'm still using the trial and will absolutely pay for the full version. I'm really happy with the early results I'm seeing but one thing I just cannot get my head around is the sunlight and how it interacts with the environment controls particularly the background and Sky overrides. If someone could ELI5 on those that would be cool. My main issue right now is having this predominantly white interior looking rather orange because of the sunlight coming through the windows. I've turned the Ozone up and Turbidity down and messed around with a whole bunch of controls. The sun is fairly high in the sky too. You can see the different with the sun on and off.... what am I missing ?

Ahhhh, the blue filter, that's what it needed! Thanks so much.

That would be great if you could. Unfortunately thats the best image of the wrapper... I just picked that brand as I share a co-working space with them and wanted to do it up as a test project. I'll check out your other tutorial though. Appreciate the time and effort!

Tech, I tried your way of doing this but ended up with some funky geometry in the corners...

Would your way of modelling differ from Tech's ? I'm always up for learning how people do things if you don't mind posting

Funny this came up today. I was delving into sub-d's today to and was having problems with this shape... How do you blend a soft shape like the centre bar of this bar with the hard edge parts of the ends of the wrapper ? Peanut butter wrapper.tif

    Little Help in Vray

So I just upgraded to FormZ 8 so I could start playing around with Vray. The videos are a bit lacking though in what I want to do. The example of the Barcelona chair is the kind of renderings style I use for retail displays I design... plain white floor and background with soft shadows underneath. I've attached a sample from Renderzone. This has been my go to setup for years and want to re-create it in Vray. Whats the best way to get this look ? Should I use an infinite ground plane ? How do I set the background to pure white ? My attempts to change the background to white don't seem to work Should I set it up as a recreation of a real work photo studio (There seems to be a lot of these demoed using 3DStudio & Vray) Any input would be greatly appreciated!

    Little Help in Vray

The problem with having the background though is when I lay them up in a presentation sheet I have to do some cropping whereas when I have a pure white background with Renderzone I could just use the render on a Multiply layer in Photoshop. I'm happy with the early results though, I flipped that Blundstone render to the client I originally did it for and he was pretty impressed!

    Little Help in Vray

Andrew, Thanks again for the input. I have played around with it since I made that post and ended up just setting up a virtual studio and was pretty happy with the results so far. Here's a few examples... you seem to know a thing or 2 about things so any feedback is welcome.

    Maxwell vs Vray

Andrew, yes, apologies for posting in here.... Thanks for the reply though. Very insightful! Based on the kind of work I do I think Vray is the way to go. I loved playing around with Maxwell because I was just in awe at the quality of renderings you could achieve but when it comes to real paying work the speed just isn't going to cut it. Looking forward to playing with Vray. Thanks again!
  25. Wow.... Mind blown! I had no idea this existed. I took some time out of design to concentrate on a side project but kept a few freelance clients ticking along. I'm stepping back in and have been browsing the forums to get myself back up to speed on all the latest FormZ developments. This one was a revelation! Thank you
