Tech got a reaction from Jaakko in Are there any future updates for FormZ?
    Hello,
Though we aren't directly integrated with Unreal, TwinMotion, or Lumion, form•Z files can be exported into various different formats to work in each:
Unreal: DWG, FBX, IGES, 3DM, SAT, STEP.
    TwinMotion: FBX, DAE, DWG
Lumion: DAE, FBX, DWG, DXF, 3DS, OBJ
We are working on incorporating BIM information into our importers but currently do not have a timeline for when it will be included. We will support VRay Next shortly after the version 9 release.

If you look at the image below, I just created a new project material by dragging "Brick 8" from the library onto the materials palette. As soon as I did that I would like the material name to automatically update to "Brick 8" rather than remain as "Material 6."

Unreal Studio imports Step, SAT etc via the Datasmith Plugin for Unreal.
FormZ exports FBX and OBJ both of which work well with UE4.
    FormZ supports VRay
For BIM and links to other systems like TwinMotion and Lumion, you are better off using Vectorworks or Archicad on a Mac or giving in to Autodesk subscriptions if you are Windows-based.
Rhino is good if like me you need to work with point clouds it also has a live link to Lumion.
The alternatives are unlikely to match FormZ for fast concepting, but for links to other software and current architectural workflows maybe you need something else to run alongside FormZ.
My set up is to go from FormZ to Modo via the Power-Translators plugin. Modo has a direct connect with Unreal.

That is a legitimate suggestion! As of right now the layers will need to have unique names, but this would make a nice improvement.
Thank you for your feedback! If you have any more, please submit them to support@formz.com.

Thank you!  Will look forward to these fixes.
If you're reading this, please bring back the ability to tile a texture to the exact height and width of the object it's applied to.  6.5 had this feature and I used it ALL the time.  VERY useful.

Tech got a reaction from graham_g in The formz change I would most like to see.
This follows the broad UI standard that you normally expect with a paste operation (think of how in a text editor the paste operation replaces the highlighted text). While a 3D application is a bit different, its not uncommon to copy a set of objects, paste them in an empty project to work with them and then copy and paste them back into the original project. In this workflow you want to replace the original objects but there are also times where you may not won't to replace them and its easy to forget to deselect first.
We can easily add some control over this function, the question is what is the best way? One option is a preference setting (Replace on Paste: on/off/ask) but that is hard to find and tedious to change. A better solution may be separate paste commands in the edit menu (ie "Paste" and "Paste and Replace").

Tech got a reaction from 3dworks in select by criteria - suggestions, again
This is being improved in v9 but we also want to make sure everyone is aware of a subtle feature that was added in v8.6. When you right click on a material there is a new option at the bottom of the context menu to select all of the objects (and faces) that are assigned the material. An additional benefit of this is that if the material is not used, the menu item will be dimmed giving quick feedback if the material is in use or not. While this is not  replacement for the Elect By Criteria palette., it is a quick way to get to the common talk of finding the object that use a material.

Tech got a reaction from Des in SDK History
The SDK has been available since v6 as both a C(/C++) interface and an FSL (form•Z script language) interface.
With v9 we are introducing Python support. This simplifies and standardizes the scriptable interface for form•Z making extending form•Z easier and opening an channel to a wealth of existing python libraries that offer a variety of functionality. The C interface will still be supported in v9, but we expect the to be used primarily for existing plugins or development that needs to access external C libraries. FSL will be discontinues.
We expect that the Python interface will bring new interest in extensions and to the LAB project which has not been updated in a while. We expect to start beta testing towards the end of next month so stay tuned!

Tech got a reaction from ¢hris £und in Workaround for Layout? ...anybody use it this way?
    Malc,

Spending time making Layout a more robust and user-friendly drafting program will not "detriment [formZ] of its 3D modeling capabilities...."  We will allocate our resources effectively to make the whole formZ package (formZ, Layout, Imager, Viewer, etc.) a great value and enjoyable experience for all of its users.

Layout IS a way to to make your views created in the 3D model to another program to produce a working drawing.  This is done by following these steps:
    • Save your views with the .fmz file
    • Open Layout.
    • Create a Layout Frame
    • Select the .fmz file, choose your view and scale in the Frame Parameters, click OK.

Does this not work for you?

Also, note that exporting/printing both a raster image and a vector image at the same time is not easy to implement given that raster and vector formats are different.  That is, JPG is a raster format, DWG is a vector format.
