    Render animation in vray?

Animations should render in V-Ray for formZ. We just did a quick test here with 8.6.1 and we were able to render a simple animation (albeit very few frames). Please let us know if you are still having issue with this version. Also the formZ imager was updated in v8.6.1 to support batch rendering with V-Ray for formZ. You can update formZ Pro to v8.6.1 here: http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/formz_86_Update.html

    Texture mapping askew

As Andrew indicted its hard to tell much with out more information for reference. Does the problem only occur in V-Ray for formZ or does it also happen in shaded modes (and RenderZone if you have it). Can you send the file to support@formz.com so we can investigate? Please send an image of how you expect it to render if possible

    Frame: square cross section?

Cylinders along the edges and spheres of the same radius at the points is the only solution that yields a clean model at the joints for any source object We considered offering other cross sections, however, they will inevitably lead to unintended result for many source objects. These objects would likelyhave undesirable results at the joints and my not be usable for other operations. Having said that, there are some exceptions that could be useful. For example square cross sections on source objects with 90 degree corners. Certainly something we can consider if there is interest. As Des suggested the derivative 3D wall tool can be used to create part of this effect. Its even easier if you pre-pick the sources using the area pick tool with the face topology level and use the "Perpendicular to Surface" option in the 3D wall tool. This allows you to create a 3D walls from each face at the same height in one step.

    form•Z 8.6 Update Released

ingoerik, Thanks for your report. We were able to reproduce this problem on some (but not all) of our OS X machines (Windows tested OK). The Lightwave translator was not changed in this version, however a behind the scenes change that did occur was the transition to new development tools from Apple. We have discovered that an optimizer setting in these new tools causes the resulting Lightwave plugin to malfunction. We have re-built this plugin without this optimizer setting and it now works properly. We have updated the installers with the new plugin. Please download and re-install and you should find that the problem is fixed.

    form•Z 8.6 Update Released

We released v8.6.1 today. You can update you installation from the links below:. Click Here for formZ pro. Click Here fo formZ jr. Click here for formZ Student Edition. Highlights of enhancements in v8.6.1: • Enable Advanced OpenGL has been added to the OpenGL preferences (Edit->Preferences->OpenGL). This new option will enable the latest version of OpenGL available on your system. For many systems this will increase performance of the shaded and wireframe displays, however this option is not compatible with all graphics cards and drivers so it is off by default. On Mac OS, this option is only available for v10.10 or later. • Copy and paste of objects with materials assigned to faces now works as expected. • Repeat and continuous copy modes no longer display some objects in wireframe. • Copy/paste then undo/redo components now work properly. • Redo on any operation involving a component now maintains components properly. • Support for Windows 10 improved. • Certain Components with materials assigned to faces now work properly. • Clicking in the materials palette when using the large icon option now works properly when the palette is tall and narrow. • Undo files are more size efficient and less likely to become full and leave undo command dimmed. • Palettes positioned at the edge of the screen are no longer clamped to the screen edge when form•Z is restarted. • Dimensions and Notes now print at higher resolution. • The display resolution is now maintained when two wire objects are joined. • Changes to the animation options or tracks now refresh the shaded preview properly. • A warning is now issued if the scratch disk location (preferences->scratch Disk->custom) is not accessible as this can disable Undo/Redo. • Restoring 2-point perspective views in the view palette now works properly. • In certain project files, renaming of materials now works. • On Mac OS 10.13, the palettes no longer become semi-transparent and immobile when dragged from the palette dock on certain systems. • The Layout Title block section of the Project Settings now works properly. • Numerous stability and performance improvements.
  6. We are running OSX 10.13.4 on a variety of machines with no problems (so far). We had one customer who did report having a similar problem after updating to 10.13.4. They re-installed 10.13 and the problem went away. We are monitoring the situation but it appears that there maybe an issue when updating the OS (versus a complete install).

    "Smooth Modelling Error"

FZnoob, Can you confirm in the "About formZ" screen that the version reads "8.6.0.3" build 10053? If so then we are suspicious that a component did not install properly. Can you please delete the formZ 86 Pro application folder (/Applications/formZ 8/formZ 8.6 pro/) and re-install.

    GPS coordinates in points

The simple solution is to find a utility that converts a list of Wgs84 coordinates to a common format like obj. A google search seems to indicate that there are some of these out there, but we are not sure how usable they are for you. The other alternative is to find a utility that converts a list of Wgs84 to a text file of xyz coordinates. We have a sample plugin in the formZ SDK that reads a basic file of XYZ values and creates a point cloud. If you have some programming skills. You can convert the sample plugin from reading XYZ values to read Wgs84. You will just need to read the Wgs84 data, convert it to XYZ and call the formZ function to create the point cloud. The Wgs84 conversion to cartesian coordinates is well documented on the web. We can guide through the SDK if you are interested in this route. Please email devsupport@formz.com for assistance.

    form•Z 8.6 Update Released

Martin, We are investigating the possibility that Windows is getting confused about the the "installer ownership" of the application when switching between the full installer and the App only installer. Try to delete the /program files/formZ 8/formZ 86 pro 64/ folder and re-install.

  14. bbuxton, We just triple checked the Windows installer in the above link and the full download install links as well and they all install 8.6.0.3 #10053. We also checked that the previous 8.6 installers are no longer present on the web server so its really impossible to install the old versions. Please be sure that you are not re-running an installer that you previously downloaded to your machine. We are investigating the possibility that Windows is getting confused about the the "installer ownership" of the application when switching between the full installer and the App only installer. What you in fact may be experiencing is that the installer is just not updating the app (ie not reinstalling the old version). Try to delete the /program files/formZ 8/formZ 86 pro 64/ folder and re-install. The AWS service used for distribution has proven very fast and reliable. If you are positive you are getting the wrong version installed, please contact us at support@formz.com so we can investigate this issue with AWS carefully. This version (8.6.0.3 #10053) is available for all platforms. The fix mentioned above was specific to OS X and was highlighted as it was discussed on this thread. For various technical reasons the minor revision and build numbers can not be shown in the installer at the moment. We agree that it would be useful if the download webpages contain this information. We will add it soon.

    formZ models exchange site!

Anton, We changed the name of the Topic. Nice contributions so far!
  21. Thanks jsiggia! We have corrected the link in the original post. Its possible that the DVD is damaged or the installer on the DVD is no longer compatible with the OS you have.
  22. Apple made significant security changes to Gatekeeper in macOS 10.12 Sierra that affects the installation of form•Z. Please read and consider the following if you are contemplating upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra. form•Z v8.5 is compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra. Older form•Z versions through v6 have not been extensively tested with macOS 10.12 Sierra. These versions functioned properly in limited testing and are expected to function well (but are not guaranteed to do so). Installation (or reinstallation) of form•Z onto a machine running macOS 10.12 Sierra is affected by the new security restrictions imposed by Gatekeeper in macOS 10.12 Sierra as follows: form•Z 8.5 can be installed on macOS 10.12 Sierra using the form•Z 8.5.6 disk images (which were released on 10/6/16). These disk images can be accessed using the installation links in your original license information email. form•Z 8.0, form•Z 7.x and any version of bonzai3d cannot be installed on macOS 10.12 Sierra. You will need to upgrade to 8.5 or install on a machine with 10.11 (or earlier) and copy the installation to the macOS 10.12 Sierra machine. form•Z 6 is not affected by the OS X 10.12 Sierra security changes as this version is not a native OS X (macOS) application (however form•Z 6 has not been extensively tested with OS X 10.12 Sierra). In general, any version of form•Z (or bonzai3d) that is installed on a machine prior to upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra will function, but be aware of the installation limitations should re-installation become necessary.
  23. rmulley, Sorry that you are still having difficulties. You can try to install the latest formZ 7 from Here. There have been a number of improvements in the graphics capabilities win formZ 8. You may want to try the trial version for formZ 8 to se if it performs better for you. You can sign up fo this here: http://www.formz.com/home/trialLanding.html
  24. FZnoob & Hugo, et al. The issue with the dragging of palettes has been fixed in 8.6.0.3. You can get the latest installers here; http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/formz_86_Update.html. In the rush to fix some issues that were affecting the Maxwell plugin, we inadvertently pickup a new macOS SDK from Apple that had some very unexpected side effects (incline the above described pallet issue). Sorry it took a while to track down the source of the disturbance (as it was quite unexpected). We apologize for the inconvenience.

import file format disappear from menu

When only the IGES format shows its a indicator that the formZ plugins are not loading. There are two causes for this. 1. The plugins folder is missing from your installation. Please check that the /Program Files/formZ 8/formZ 8.6 Pro 64/plugins/ folder exists. In this folder you should have a number of folders that contain .fzp files (formZ plugins). If this is missing you can reinstall your 8.6 pro from here. In fact we noticed that you are not using the lasses 8.6 so please install the latest from here: http://www.formz.com/products/formz/update/formz_86_Update.html 2. formZ does not know how to find the plugins. This is controlled by the Search Paths accessed in the Extensions Manager dialog (extension menu). This is a list of where formZ looks for plugins. Please add /Program Files/formZ 8/formZ 8.6 Pro 64/plugins/ in the search paths and re-start. If this does not work, the final step its to reset your preferences by deleting the file "formZ Previous8.fpo" in /Users/<user name>/AppData/Roaming/autodessys/ while formZ is NOT running. We hope this helps!
