    Lock reference plane bug

Hi Petter, No, we are not getting this. If you Reboot your computer and test again, do you still get this? If so, what version of formZ are you using on which operating system?

    searc old frums?

Hi JTucker, Paste the following into a Google Search Bar: site:wip.formz.com/forum/old/messages/ Then add any search terms (separated by a space) after this link. Does that help you find what you want?

Running 6.7.3 on a new mac

Hi Pipo, I believe you already made this request list on the Maxwell section of our forum, correct? If so, it should already be entered on the "list." (If you have any new suggestions, you can post those there too…)

Stop rendering in Form Z 8

Hi TBray, Yes, as Rob notes, the ESC key or the Command Period shortcut should stop a rendering. Does that work for you? If not, does loading the default shortcuts fix it for you?

    Displacement tool

Hi Doug, Currently the location of the Displacement Controller needs to be set Numerically, so if you have your Texture already set where you want, and if you just copy those values into the Displacement, does that give you what you want? (We will see if we can enable graphic editing of this in the future.)
  6. Dear Jon, We mentioned the quality of the geometry because you said: We actually have a number of videos showing fabrication and prototyping here: http://www.formz.com/webinars/webinarReplay.html Regarding the image that you post, ... there is an issue with the rendering Normals in this case, and we are working on a solution for this. And yes, we will do our best to promote the new scripting language when it is available.
  7. Hi Jonmore, Thank you for taking the time to make this comparison. First allow us to make one correction. form•Z Free does have the ability to Cast real-time shadows for any location on earth. Please see the form•Z Free Sun Palette that allows for full control over geographic location and date and time. In addition to real-time visualization, the animated shadows can be exported as an animation (as a QuickTime of AVI file). We should note that a major difference that you did not discuss is the quality of the underlying geometry. form•Z Free creates clean solid models. This is very important as these models can be used in advanced modeling operations and 3D printing where Sketchup models often fail. The extensions community for SketchUp did not happen overnight. This has evolved over many years so it’s not quite a fair comparison against a new offering like form•Z Free. Rest assured that we are working on support for Python scripts and plugins for form•Z Free and we embrace extension development for all levels of form•Z. Regarding the image that you post, the geometry there is fine and would not have any issues 3d printing, but there is an issue with the rendering Normals in this case, and we are working on a solution for this.
  8. Hi Gentlemen, Yes, this is on our radar for the future.
  9. Hi Markus, Yes, we have reported the issue to the developers of the translator plugins. They have not been as responsive as we (you and us) would like, but we have sent a reminder so hopefully this can be resolved in the not too distant future.
  10. Hi DShaw, Yes, we are working to restore any of the "interim" postings. We also made notes of all discussions in the period, including issues and suggestions, and responded to users via email if necessary.

Hi Dada, Yes, we are working on transitioning the gallery to the new web site. Glad you are liking the improvements!

Running 6.7.3 on a new mac

Hi Pipo, Yes, formZ 6.7.3 is the oldest supported version of formZ, but it does run properly on OS X 10.9 and earlier. It is not supported on OS X 10.10, but we have not had any reports of issues (at least not yet). If a dealer told you otherwise, can you please send an email to dealerz@formz.com and let them know who the dealer was so we can make sure they have the correct information?

    Thanks everyone!
  15. Yes, keep voting! Now Archicad is in the lead, but we have passed Revit!
  16. Hi Markus, LightWave should be listed (which will generate a LWO file). Are you not seeing that in your Export Options?
  17. Hi Markus, The middle mouse button is the default key shortcut for Hand Interactive, and should not deselect any pre-picked objects. If you go to the Edit Menu: Key Shortcuts, click Load Defaults, OK, and then retest it, does that then work properly for you? Or if that is still not working, if you get a New Project, draw a cube, and then Pan with the middle Mouse button, does that deselect objects for you? (If that is working but another specific file is not, can you send a portion of that file that shows the issue so we can test with that?)

    product comparison page problem

Hi Dan, Thanks for your report, this has been corrected.
  21. We are working on support for OS X 10.10 “Yosemite” for bonzai3d 3. Until we are able to release a fully qualified patch, we are releasing a “hot fix” which will fix the major problem of a crash at startup on OS X 10.10 Yosemite. Please use this with caution and carefully follow the following steps to install the hot fix: • Be sure that you have bonzai3d 3.2.4. This fix will only work for bonzai3d 3.2.4. If you don't have it, you can download it here: www.formz.com/update • Download libFZRT.dylib.zip. If necessary extract the zip file. You should now have a single file named “libFZRT.dylib”. • Locate your bonzai3d 3.2.4 Application folder and locate the file “libFZRT.dylib”. • Replace the file in your installation with the one that you downloaded. • Launch bonzai3d 3.2.4! NOTE that there may still be issues running under Yosemite with bonzai3d. If you do encounter any issues, please send details to support@bonzai3d.com so we can address them as best as possible. libFZRT_dylib.zip

  25. This tech note is intended for users of formZ 7 and later who are familiar with previous versions. The information below summarizes the major changes so you can get up to speed quickly: ----------------- FormZ version 7 (and now v8) is a major improvement over previous versions that has been in the works for a few years. It contains a redesigned interface that typically takes a day or two for most users to become familiar. If you spend this time judiciously studying the changes, you should be able to quickly get back to speed -- and soon thereafter most users are reporting that not only is modeling more fun, but that they can be twice as productive. If you are on a tight deadline, continue using what you know, but when you have a moment, study up on formZ 7 and you will soon enjoy its benefits. Don't jump straight into a project and trying to figure it out as you go. Dedicating some time first will not only be "much more rewarding" -- you will most likely be able to complete the training AND finish your first project in less time than if you went straight to work on the project without understanding the changes. The formZ 7 Migration Guide contains a brief summary of the major changes between formZ 6 and 7. To get up to speed as quickly as possible, you should start by reading through this document quickly. This document contains lots of valuable information, so you should probably read through it more than once. (And thanks to Bernd, we also have this available in German…): formZ 7 Migration Guide2.zip FormZ7_Migration_Guide_DEUTSCH-98023.zip We even have a video version with tips to quickly get up to speed with formZ 7. This covers some similar information to what is included in the above PDF file, but it is not identical, so for best results, we would recommend reviewing both. You can find a link to this 30 minute video here: http://www.formz.com/webinars/webinars_html/formZ_Fast_6_to_7.html You can find the Tutorial Videos from formZ's Help Menu, or from the link below: http://www.formz.com/Video/formZ/formz7_ENU/formZ7Videos.html While you are watching the videos or going through the Migration Guide, if you pause -- and do what you just saw (or read) in the program, that can ensure that you understand what you read -- and make it easier to remember in the future when you need this information. The link above also includes Webinar Replays, which are ~30 minute presentations that can help with a more process oriented approach to getting up to speed with formZ 7. In formZ 7 you can right click on any tool and choose Manual, Video, or Set Keyboard Shortcut to have direct access to the tools, their documentation, and easily make shortcuts to work faster. Holding the Shift key while selecting any menu will open the manual, or Ctrl-Alt (Win) or Cmd-Opt (Mac) will bring up the key shortcuts. There is also a heads up display that you can access by tapping the space bar -- and once this is visible, if you press the first letter of any tool, all the tools with that name will appear. Clicking on the desired tool will not only make it active, but it will also highlight the tool in the modeling tool bar, in case you are having trouble locating a tool as you get started. We have also released a Tips and Tricks page that contains lots of useful information that you can find here: http://forums.formz.com/index.php?/topic/1993-formz-tips-and-tricks-page-released/ Once you have spent some time reviewing this information, please let us know if you have any further questions. Feel free to email directly to support@formz.com, we would be glad to help.
