    View parameters consistency

Bo, did that first thing. The settings are identical. Pylon, it is 2D perspective. At the time the model was created used to be perspective with "keep verticals straight" checked. Thanks.
  2. Hello, I have a problem rendering an older model, to match the original image. Here is the story. In 2011 I produced a 3d map of Manhattan and delivered a HiRes photoshop file, stacked with color adjustment layers so the client will be able to tint whatever buildings they need for their projects. See below. The agreement was that if needed, I will update the base image, which I did the following year without a problem. Now, after 5 years, several FormZ versions, operating systems and computers, I need to update the base image once more. The problem is that even if I use exactly the same view parameters and image options, the resulting rendering doesn't match the original one. They both are the same pixel size but the content is different, the new one is smaller within the frame. Even if I scale the new image, it would not perfectly match the original one, so the layers they built in the mean time would be rendered more or less useless. I believe the original model was created using FormZ 6 What can I do? Are there any preferences I can change or an algorithm to alter the view parameters so the resulting image will match the old one? Thank you, Horia

    dxf import

Yaaaay! They were far, being georeferenced. Thanks Setz.

    dxf import

Hello, I'd like to get some info on certain peculiarities I encounter in both 7.3.4 and 8.5.6. I imported some dxf files, which seem of very good quality. I use the same files in a GIS app and they're great. Although I checked "construct 3D solids" everything comes as line and surfaces. Which is OK, I can extrude the surfaces myself. 1. Objects look weird in work and work shaded but they look as they should in wireframe (see the attached image). 2. If I extrude the surfaces as they come, they are fine but I end up with collinear segments and coplanar faces. Object doctor would eventually fix the faces but not the segments. If I apply the object doctor prior to the extrusion, some faces will change the direction and it's an involved process to select just those and reverse them. Anybody? Best, Horia

Yes, thank you. Sorry for the delay in responding.

    Workflow suggestion needed.

Hi, I am attaching a sample illustrator file and two fmz files. Both were imported with the resolution set to 0. Thanks, Horia Archive.zip

    Workflow suggestion needed.

Well, I tried to import/create low resolution blocks but no matter what I did, it always comes in with too many points. I then tried the poligonize tool but not all objects have the same number of points, so it doesn't work to use the tool globally. I read the manual, but didn't find how to import paths with low res. Any info on this? Thanks, Horia

Will give it a shot, thanks.
  9. Hello, I am working on a San Francisco model and I am trying to find the optimal way to produce the blocks and streets, given the terrain. The final model will be exported to fbx format, then used in Unity for some animation. The file size should be as small as possible. I derived the terrain from an elevation file. After playing with smoothing and other options, the result is satisfactory. I created the blocks in Illustrator and extruded them. Now I have to intersect the blocks with the terrain (all are solids). I debated between using intersection, b-split or s-split. I tried a few blocks and it worked, but it's not time effective. I selected all blocks and terrain and applied b-split (I believed it was two-way) and the computer was still working after 27 hours. At this point I stopped that process and before I start to do it individually or in small batches, I was hoping that somebody has a suggestion for a better workflow or process. Thanks, Horia
  10. Hello, I need to split buildings into separate floors and slabs. The buildings are solids and/or surfaces and all have same material applied. The slabs are solids, of a different material. After the split, using the S-split tool they change to the buildings' material with the exception of the top and bottom faces. I need to have the slabs(floors) a different material but it's too time consuming to select them individually and change colors. Anybody has any idea how to do this effectively? Thanks, Horia
  11. Hello, I'm using 7.3 on Mavericks. I have to move many objects individually, to fine tune the position. In top view. Randomly and repeatedly the move tool jumps from the self to the copy setting, on it's own. Anybody knows why? Thanks
  12. Hello, I just started using a new computer and there are some lines on the screen, that were not there before, see attached. Here are the specs, I think it may have something to do with the video card or the Open GL: Processor 2 x 3.46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Memory 32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB Software OS X 10.8.5 (12F45) What is happening? Thanks, Horia

    Rendering Tiles

Yes, thank you very much. Is there a way to isolate the bad objects in order to fix them up? If on the Object Doctor palette I check "Add to selection" then copy and paste, I only have parts of objects, segments and faces. Funny thing is, I used the doctor with "fix if possible" option until everything was 0, both under general and facetted tabs. And I assumed that all objects had proper geometry. I am working on this model for 3D printing, so it looks like it's a long way...Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Horia

    Rendering Tiles

Thank you, The file is uploaded. Name is "Manhattan_2014_04.fmz". Questions: 1. Is there something wrong with the file? I can't open it with FormZ 8.0.1. 2. How can I render tiles, if the size is large and the model complex?
