  1. I think if formZ was able to put two materials on top of each other... like a wood panel texture and then put a user-defined material on top of it (resize, un-tile and add alpha for to make the "decal") that would be a step up.
  2. I'm not having any issues with 8.5 here and I no longer have 8.0.2 to test. Unless you upgrade, copy/paste to a new file may have to be your workaround.

Very slow color picker in 8.0.2

Are you on mac or windows? I think this was fixed in 8.5? Have you tried the 8.5 demo to see if it works better?

    Augment app upload issues

it looks like you are using a subD model... i wonder if that's the issue? try converting to facetted?
  5. it could be a texture or a smooth object that isn't rebuilding properly. try opening the file in the viewer without textures and make sure all objects in the file are facetted. I think tech once said in v9 there will be an option to "save for viewer..." option which will help reduce/omit any issues in the file. something to look forward to!
  6. I don't believe there is any set formula between the file size and iPad model because there are too many variables to consider. Two different models with 1.3 million faces will likely have two very different file sizes, accommodating for textures, lights, clipping planes, etc. Also, since there isn't any dedicated RAM in any iPad so the size of the file depends on exactly how much room is available on the iPad. An empty 64gb will open larger files than a 16gb iPad with 1gb free because it has more space to allocate for "memory." Not sure if this helps but I just opened a 130mb file on an iPhone 6S with ~10gb storage available (running iOS 11.1) without any issues.

    Top Ten FormZ 9 list

I agree with Alan. No need to rush version 9. Stability should be key in the next major release, even if it takes a few years.
  8. From my understanding there is not a set "size limit" when loading files in the viewer because it varies on the hardware of the iOS device. For example a 512gb iPad Pro will handle a larger file that a 64gb iPad could not, but this device would be able to handle a file that a 16gb iPad Mini 2 could not handle.

    Redo error

imagix, as tech states, you can change the location of your scratch disk in the preferences.
  10. I agree with Des. Trace the outlines in formZ using any of the spline tools, then use the curve reconstruct tool to make sure the opposing sides are the same degree and same number of points. another method after doing this is to use one of the nurbs surfaces tools to complete the surface. and lastly, thicken the surface.

    Parametric doors and windows repost

I agree. formZ is not a BIM program and it will likely never be a BIM program because that would take a complete restructure of the coding... so BIM-like requests seem (for a lack of better words, meaning no offense) frivolous. I think if formZ was a niche program among architects and interior designers then spending time and resources on better roofing, stairs, and doors and windows tools makes sense. But it's not. Many other users such as exhibit designers, industrial designers, cabinet designers, urban planners, etc. would not use these features, so the ADS resources are better off utilized for more pressing matters that the majority of the users would benefit like more reliable importers/exporters, more rendering options, a more streamlined UI, or just killing off small, yet annoying bugs (undos, anyone?).
  12. For what its worth, I think the new iMac Pro is a step in the right direction. Also, the trashcan Mac Pro is supposedly in line for the cutting block for a more modular version of a Mac Pro. Personally, I love the apple ecosystem too much because more often than not "it just works." Updating Windows OS and then separate drivers for graphics, sound card, etc. and making sure they are all compatible isn't for me. Disclaimer: I'm a bit of an Apple fanboy, so I'm a little biased But back to the other part of the conversation, KeyShot is a CPU based renderer so a sub-par graphics card on a Mac is not a worry. This is why I long to see a Keyshot/formZ plugin!

    STEP export in 8.5

Bernd, This may not be a good or possible workaround for you, but have you tried using Windows/32 bit?

    managing file formats

Agreed. The plugin from Rhino to Keyshot is about as simple as it comes (from the end-user's perspective) since there isn't any added UI elements added to the modeling program. From Keyshot's website: "A KeyShot plugin links the 3D modeling software and KeyShot together, rather than putting KeyShot inside the modeling application. Plugins add a menu button to your 3D software that transfers 3D data and other model information into KeyShot. Plugins are developed by Luxion or by our partners who will distribute and support them." The unfortunate information here is that a plugin is out of the hands of ADS, so asking for it on these forums is likely to be ineffective

    I cannot Undo

were you adding textures to these objects?

    managing file formats

I've found that C4D is a fantastic out of the box renderer that plays pretty well with formZ: export as 3DS (be cautious of objects with many smooth faces, like pegboard) and import into C4D. The nice thing about this is that you can texture your model in formZ and then import it into C4D completely in tact, so you're not sacrificing the shaded render modes to another program. The caveat here is that you will need to delete the lights that are imported into C4D and turn down the reflections on the materials.

    Import Rhino geometry

I had the best luck exporting/importing with 3DS and DAE file formats.

    I cannot Undo

I came across this for the first time today. My file was a little over 100mb and this occurred after applying/editing about a dozen textures on objects. I then deleted one of the objects, tried to Undo and it didn't work. I then tried deleting another object and Undo still didn't work. Save, close, and re-open allowed it to work again. My folder with the textures is roughly around 50mb. I'm curious if these are related (file/texture size and breaking Undo).
