  1. change "smooth" to facetted in the drop down and also change the radial button from "parametric" to "facetted" sketchup doesn't play well with smooth geometry.
  2. Yes, that works too. But the (non) issue is that the slicing lines shouldn't have to connect. I'd like to see less bugs, not more workarounds.
  3. is anyone else having this problem? Working from a server I have this problem a few times a week. There isn't any specific set of functions, or in a specific file, it's any file after routine functions. Copying my projects locally is not a viable workaround because that breaks linked textures that I need to export to render... and I often need to work on projects from two different locations. formZ is a very fast modeler, but that efficiently doesn't matter when I'm constantly losing 15, 20, 30+ minutes of work in my projects. sigh.

    undos are still broken

I never thought about that, but yes, it is set to Unlimited. Ill change it to 12 (and maybe increase later) to see if that resolves the issue. thanks, Des!

    undos are still broken

I'm working locally on a project and I'm still having the same problem. I just restarted my machine. hopefully that will help for a while... 🙄

I have not tried a full program re-install. I might give that a try when I have some time and I'm connected to a different network. Thanks.
  7. Yes this was checked. The overall problem is that the formZ file was no longer linked to my texture maps even though they showed up in the model. If they aren't linked they won't export... at least that's the problem I'm having.
  8. I also want to take a moment to say that it's not necessary to export two copies of every texture in the project. please fix!
  9. Brilliant! thank you Justin!
  10. With a clear mind this morning, I thought to try "Save A Copy As..." to save all the textures with the .fmz file. I did this saving directly onto a flash drive to open on another machine but only the .fmz is saved. I assume the "Save Textures" option just bakes them WITH the .fmz file, which is not helpful in my case. I think formZ needs to have a "Package" option where the formZ file is saved with a folder of textures and re-links them. I believe this would solve this exporting problem when moving to different locations. And an ability to automatically re-link textures in a given directly after one file is re-linked would be more than welcome.
  11. re-linking textures one by one. there MUST be another way...

Ahh yes, the ol' cheesegrater mac. What a gem! Hopefully we will see a preview of the 2019 Mac Pro at WWDC. I'm hoping for a bigger jump in their entire pro lineup. I'm still holding on to a Late 2013 MacBook Pro because I refuse to own one with a touch bar *eye roll*
  13. hidden line is still awful and I was thinking "there must be a better way..." there is. and it's so easy I feel like a dunce that it took me 5+ years to figure it out. 1. Have a white background and turn off grid and axes. 2. Create a white material and set the reflection to constant. 3. Turn on Antialiasing in Shaded Options Done. Instant Hidden Line that is at least 100,000x faster than the real hidden line and with MUCH better results in regards to text (i didn't do a benchmark test on this, so please don't quote me). I'm literally never using the hidden line again and i am so happy about this so i needed to share.

Justin, If I had a dollar for every time you talked trash about Apple/Mac hardware on this forum I'd be able to treat myself to a nice steak dinner 😂 No hard feelings, your input is always informative and welcomed by all of us formZers. But yes, flakie, if you posted your file or some screenshots of your settings we should be able to better assist you.
  15. The white on black is a nice effect! I have noticed in a couple models where the lines are not behaving as I expected. I'm on Windows so I don't believe it's a Mac/Graphics Card problem. Strangely, in some views, those disappearing lines will reappear when I turn on the grid? I don't know how they are related but they are. I know this method isn't perfect, but it definitely helps on large models with smooth geometry. I'm just exporting the images of my work (after setting my image options to a higher resolution) so I'd rather do this than click Hidden Line and sit and wonder how long it's going to take.
  16. After you pick an object, select the Transform tool and in the Tool Options you can see the X, Y, and Z dims of the object. I use this quite often.

"...these go to 11." this plug was not lost by all lol.

The formz change I would most like to see.

I'd like to see formZ stop showing up as "Not Responding" when saving/importing/exporting/closing files. Every time this happens I have a mini heart attack. In the same vein: take the status bar of these operations out of the Action Palette and open up a new window with the status bar. But not with Auto-Save. This should just happen quickly in the background.
  19. Is there an option to not import the lights? This option is available in C4D and works well when importing FBX from formZ.
  20. Thanks for the tips, Justin. I'll give them a try!
  21. anyone else having this problem? I've lost about 4 hours of work the last 2 days because of crashing/error loops. Both error loops were caused by Undo's being reset (different processes so of course I could not reproduce the error) and one crash was just navigating around the model. I don't have auto-save enabled because auto-save = routine temporary freezing while modeling which is not ideal. For the rest of the day I'm going to work on a Mac that is at my disposal to see if that is any better with 8.6.4.1.
  22. Update: zero crashes while working on the Mac with the same file. I will forever be upset with my company switching to Windows.
  23. I'm not sure if this is a bug or if it's designed this way, but I use groups quite a bit and my preferred method to edit groups is by selecting Unlock Groups. However if I have Unlock Groups checked, copy a whole group, then uncheck Unlock Groups, the original group remains, but the copied group is not a group. For example: Draw a number of cubes. Select all and group. Go to Edit and check Unlock Groups. Select all cubes, move/copy them. Uncheck Unlock Groups. The original group is still grouped, the new "group" is not. Personally, I'd prefer the group to remain as a part of the copied objects, but maybe I'm not the majority. Regardless of this workflow, I'd like to see the Unlock Groups and Unlock Components be a more prevalent part of the formZ UI. Maybe something similar to how the Lock Reference Plane is displayed? If there were icons for these functions I'd probably create a custom toolbar for it so I can stop making this mistake... which is almost everyday haha.

    Simple modeling... stuck on basics!

    1. create your wall 2. use offset segment tool (insert OFF) to offset 2" from each side and 3' from bottom (you can also use guides here, but it'll take more clicks) 3. define reference plane on your wall 4. draw a rectangle (insert OFF) starting at the bottom left corner with a length of 16" and a width of 9" 5. use a guide to mark the 16:9 ratio of the rectangle in the previous setp 6. draw another rectangle (with insert ON) in the same bottom left corner and follow the guide to the intersection on the other side of the wall. 7. reshape -1" and delete offset lines, guides, reference rectangle. After doing this, I realize it would be REALLY beneficial if you could lock your aspect ratio in the rectangle tool options... 🤔
