Just actually started using V3 for FZ and I'm totally new... so please bear with my questions.

Anyway - I tried applying an MXM for the first time, and it wants me to find the folder for them, I assume... and have no idea where it is, and can't seem to locate it...

    Any help appreciated!

    Hello Maxwell Users,

New Maxwell plugins are available in the Next Limit Early Builds area. For information about how to access the Early Builds Area, please see: http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41692

This new plugin provides a number of new features and important fixes. It requires the current Maxwell Render Suite, version 3.2.0.0 (located in the Next Limit Customer portal).

Please provide feedback by writing to:

    CHANGES
        • New "Ambient Field" light type for flooding interiors with soft, diffused light.
        • Maxwell Sea animation option (Sea parameters > Animate )
        • Material Hints Optimized. (To match hints in previous versions of the plugin, adjust "Hint Version" in Extensions > Maxwell Render > Project Settings...)
        • New "Fast" and "Fastest" Material hints.
        • Material Hints in the first category ("Matte" though "Industrial Coating") are ordered from most efficient to least.
        • Any materials using the deprecated hint "Closest Match" are upgraded to the new "Fast" Hint. "Closest Match" is now obsolete.
        • Added 'Blur' parameter for Cone light types ( Cone Light > Maxwell representation > Parameters tab )
        • MXS Reference objects now adopt the name of the MXS scene (in the formZ Object palette)
        • Additional Layers Export option: Duplicate (Layer) Structure.

    FIXES
        • Fixed crash when adjusting auto-translated emitter material, when applied to multiple objects and Fire enabled
        • Fixed occasional unresponsive UI when updating material preview (Windows)
        • Scatter "Orient Toward Z+" parameter now labeled correctly
        • Package For Renderfarm works more than once per session
        • Frosted Glass Hint works with color bitmaps correctly

I have a HDR file that I am that I using as an emitter it does not stay linked to that file. I have to relink before rendering or it will render out incorrectly. Also I have emitter lights that when I setup them to hide from camera it still shows in the rendering just not illuminated. Formz 8.02 maxwell 3.2 on pc.

AllieAlape reacted to allanjl in Crashing when creating dae
    Hello Maxwell Support,

1.The attached file was created in Win 64 with Maxwell materials.
    2. The file then was opened in Win 32 and saved. (Win 32 does not have the Maxwell plugin)
    3. Then I tried to export a DAE file. (the material palette still showed the Maxwell materials preview). The file would crash.
    4. If I open the file once again, and tried to export to DAE, if would not crash. Or if I opened, refresh the materials (Maxwell preview in material palette would go away) the writing the DAE file would not crash.

I am attaching the file saved from Win 64 with the Maxwell plugin.
If you open it, in Win 32, without the Maxwell plugin, (do not refresh material preview in palette) and try to export to DAE, with textures as Jpeg, quality setting 5, formZ will crash.

Could you please confirm this behavior?

    Thanks,

    Allan

    Hi Ben,

Often times I would like to adjust something in my scene from a different point of view than what is being rendered, say from a Top axonometric view while watching the effects of the changes in the perspective render - eg. sun position and shadows.  Currently this doesn't seem possible because Fire is linked to the active view.  It would be great to have the option of choosing a camera view from the Views Palette for the Fire Render and then be able to adjust the view as desired in the main modeling window.

    Hi Pylon,
I was wondering if in the future you will be adding the function of a "convert components to instances' to the MaxwellZ plugin? I seem to remember it was included in an earlier iteration.
It would be a great feature if you could, especially for very detailed components.

    Thanks and regards,

I would love to hear from other users on the issue of how long it takes to render an image.  I need to use Maxwell again on a project and it is taking me approximately 8 minutes to create a Maxwell Fire image to SL of 16.  I took a quick look at what it would take to produce a fully rendered image at 4000x 2800 and it looks to be about 76 hours.
So here is some background information:
I have kept my Fire settings and resolution low
I have just used a simple sky dome light with a few emitter materials for lights
    Multi light is turned off
    I have no displacement materials
I have kept all materials simple with Fast as a suggested reference.
I have gone through all of the tricks on the internet for optimizing lighting and materials.  Thanks Evan!
I mostly use default settings for my render and kept the camera simple
My machine is a dual processor Xeon 2.6 Ghz with 16 cores.  64 MB of Ram.  Graphics card is benchmarked at 8500

The model was originally created in Revit and I imported it into Form.z.  Then I cleaned up any errant geometry and ran object doctor on a few.
It is of a large home with mostly simple planes and solid geometry.  No intricate soft modeling or tons of faceted objects.

I know that there are a lot of factors involved in estimating time for renders but I just feel that this is way too slow and would like to know if I am doing something horribly wrong here or if everyone experiences this.  Any other tricks that you use to speed things along?

    Thanks
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

You can definitely store different camera settings for various lighting situations. An pencil and paper are not necessary. There are two approaches:

    1. Have more than one window in your project. Each will have its own set of render options, including camera settings. This approach is okay for quick one-off tests, but doesn't scale well, plus, you might accidentally close a window.

    2. A better solution is to keep a single window, and use formZ Scenes with the "Rendering Parameters" option enabled:

You can select any other relevant options there, too.

Note: You need to remember that formZ Scenes are "active" when created, so any changes made while the red bullet is on will be saved in the scene. This is the opposite of how Views are handled, and can lead to some confusion if you haven't used Scenes before.

In Render Options > File, you can see that the Scene name will be added to the output Maxwell filenames by default, but you can turn this off if you like:

    Hi,

I would like to create the effect of light coming through a window, but not use a sun. Instead i want to have projectors - or individual lights - which will each create the same effect.

example- say we are in a closed room or movie studio and want to project the effect of sunlight through a window on the wall, but we want to be able to have multiples and to position them, we would need some sort of special projector.

what strategy would be best for this?

i noticed that FW 8.5 po offers two kinds of projectors - one projects an image, but i just need a shape of light not an image...

    Thanks!

    Hi Pylon,
When I Package for Renderfarm the last couple of projects I've been working on, I have to try a few times before the mxs is created. Usually takes about three attempts before it's written.
I'm using the latest early builds of the plugin and Maxwell. The mxm's are around 20mb with around 80 to 100 image maps (trees/people etc.)

AllieAlape reacted to Andy in 3.2.1.4 too slow to generate animation frames
    Hi Pylon,

I installed the 3.2.1.4 upgrade and try to generate 300 frames with 8.5.4 and the latest plug-in (Mac Pro 4,1 with 12 Gb RAM and OSX 10.10.5).
With the latest early build formZ took few minutes, now with 3.2.1.4 plug-in took 1 hour and 40 minutes (with base animation disable).

I installed the 3.2.1.4 plug-in because early build worked great but with same 300 animation frames some random frames (9 of 300) had mxs trees scatter moved different for the rest of frames.

I tryed to generate manuallt only the problematic frames but the scatter mxs are moved again. (i don't to disabled base animation with the early build).

    I don't know if with the 3.2.1.4 plug-in and base animation disabled the generation frames long time is aspected;

The project is too big to send you but if the animation will the same frames problem i consider to send you formZ project with all textures and dipendencies.
