JerodMl reacted to Alan Cooper in formZ 9
Yes, anything that takes us closer to creating a cost-list / price-list / more user controlled bill of materials as spreadsheet, which refers to selected parts and maybe parts even unselected if on a certain layer. Info management is an extremely useful tool but the .csv output is still a little limited regarding customisation.

It`s name Re: construction - FormZ models sharing and it is located at http://www.formz.xyz
You are welcome to download models from there for free. And you are more than welcome to upload your models there.
If by some accident you might want to support this site I run you can provide me with FormZ modeling, rendering or design job .
As for today I added some new models in:
As usual: "If you need to have any model with textures or Maxwell/Thea materials it is going to be as low as $10 per model. If model was submitted by another user I will send a half of the amount to him/her."
JerodMl reacted to Andre Conlledo in 3D Connexion
Hello Z! I need help fixing my 3D Connexion mouse.
I just updated the 3D Connexion software to 10.5.0 and now NON of my preferences on the advance settings tab of the 3D Conexxion window are taking effect on the way the mouse behaves in formZ. My work-around this was to get my preference file from my laptop located in the folder C:\Users\User\AppData\Roaming\3Dconnexion\3DxWare\Cfg and copy/paste to the same folder of my desktop. The mouse works fine now but I can't modify my preferences.
Also I can't access the formZ advance settings tab on the 3D Conexxion properties window unless I have no projects open on formZ which might be why I'm having this issue.
Things I've tried:
re-installing the old drivers re-installing formZ clean install of the new 3D Connexion driver the mouse works fine on other software

JerodMl reacted to m_kisch in Imager changes materials
For a project I use imager to render overnight. But I've run into a problem where Imager changes the materials on elements in the model - despite the fact that it is the same model that is being rendered through Imager with renderzone.
Depending on the views I have - the materials on the surfaces changes.
Attached view 2 shows the correct materials (rendered in formz with renderzone)
and attached view 1 shows the wrong materials and maps! (rendered with Imager)
It is not only these two views but all the views in my model that has started to act up!
JerodMl reacted to squiggles in Creating a Window Component
say, I need a different size of a window or a door. Editing an existing component got very messy and the edited window stopped cutting into the wall. Trying to make my own and use the manual as a reference. What I've got is a grouped object that I can place on the wall ok, but it doesn't cut through it. Is anyone successfully made a window by himself?
JerodMl reacted to kac in Antique metal shaders for Renderzone?
I am trying to make some virtuals for customers to get the go ahead on castings and am wondering if there are any antique metal shaders. I am casting parts in pewter and antique them where the recesses are dark and tops are polished.
Are there any shaders for Renderzone or do I need to get a 3rd party renderer for that?
JerodMl reacted to Cronze in Printing to PDF from FormZ Layout 8.5
Long time listener; first time caller!
I have searched the FormZ forums extensively. Though I could find similar topics, I could not find this specific issue.
I have recently upgraded to FormZ and FormZ Layout 8.5.7. I am running MAC OSX (10.12.15). I have just finished drawing my new workshop in a layout project in six sheets in A3 format. I now require these drawings in PDF format for shire/county planning approval.
Printing landscape A3 PDFs sounds reasonably straight forward, right? Well.. I have no end of trouble and to no avail. I have tried, but not limited to:
1. Print - > print settings - > save to PDF. Nothing happens... literally nothing. No PDF creation. FormZ just closes the print dialogue.
2. Tried a number of specific PDF writer printer drivers available in the App Store, including 'PDF Printer'. PDF Printer is not too bad, but I can only get a portrait orientation which crops half the drawing! I presume this to be a limitation of the free or 'lite' version. I am a little reluctant to part with $30 for the full version unless I know it'll fix my problem.
3. Attempted to export to a number of different formats including DWG, DWF and PS and opening these exported files in various other viewers. However, this just created a jumbled mess of objects, lines, splines and other miscellaneous garbage which makes no sense whatsoever. Also, dimensions failed to hop across to these exported formats.
The point is though, because the PDF function is built in to both OS and FormZ, one shouldn't have to buy PDF software or export to any other format for the sake of creating a PDF. It should just work.
Has anybody out there experienced problems creating a PDF in FormZ Layout 8.5? And if so, how did you work around it?
JerodMl reacted to ¢hris £und in Swift
in my impatience, I am studying Swift.
I see that there are workarounds for getting C/C++ Libraries to work with it.
Just wondering if this would be too much of a stretch with the fZ SDK?
I presume that the current build is C/C++? or have you differentiated and gone objective-C and C#/.Net?
Also, curious to know if there is any consideration of future development in swift?
As there has been some work for it on windows,
and there is a dist for linux.
I of course realize that this would be substantial upfront work, but seems that it would also lessen the long term investment. Would certainly reduce the load on small dev's who would like to add full extensions to fZ
Tail Chasing; never ending.
JerodMl reacted to Tech in form•Z and macOS 10.12 Sierra PLEASE READ
Apple made significant security changes to Gatekeeper in macOS 10.12 Sierra that affects the installation of form•Z. Please read and consider the following if you are contemplating upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra.
form•Z v8.5 is compatible with macOS 10.12 Sierra. Older form•Z versions through v6 have not been extensively tested with macOS 10.12 Sierra. These versions functioned properly in limited testing and are expected to function well (but are not guaranteed to do so).
Installation (or reinstallation) of form•Z onto a machine running macOS 10.12 Sierra is affected by the new security restrictions imposed by Gatekeeper in macOS 10.12 Sierra as follows:
form•Z 8.5 can be installed on macOS 10.12 Sierra using the form•Z 8.5.6 disk images (which were released on 10/6/16). These disk images can be accessed using the installation links in your original license information email.
form•Z 8.0, form•Z 7.x and any version of bonzai3d cannot be installed on macOS 10.12 Sierra. You will need to upgrade to 8.5 or install on a machine with 10.11 (or earlier) and copy the installation to the macOS 10.12 Sierra machine.
form•Z 6 is not affected by the OS X 10.12 Sierra security changes as this version is not a native OS X (macOS) application (however form•Z 6 has not been extensively tested with OS X 10.12 Sierra).
In general, any version of form•Z (or bonzai3d) that is installed on a machine prior to upgrading to macOS 10.12 Sierra will function, but be aware of the installation limitations should re-installation become necessary.
JerodMl reacted to pipo in perpendicular snapping & mesh moving
Z used to have a basic mesh manipulation tool , can we get something akin to sketchup sandbox providing the
ability to paint smooth mesh movements.
Also back to fundamentals.....
drawing perpendicular to/from segment line/arc and tangential to/from a curve/arc does not work .
this tool should
1. draw a perp line from an existing line/segment/arc AND to an existing line/segment/arc
2. draw tangential from a curve/arc AND to a curve/arc
JerodMl reacted to jambojam in I need a fixed undistorted Background image
Newbie question so sorry in advance.
I work in Axonometric and Isometric and want a grid I have created as a jpeg to be my background image. I created this grid as a jpeg 1024 x 768. The grid is simple lines running at a 45 x 15 degrees. I need to bring this image in and have it stay exactly as created so the grid maintains the exact 45 x 15 angles. I am finding it distorts based on the size of the window. How do I get a background image to stay true to it's exact aspect ratio regardless of my workspace window or can I specify the window to be 1024 x 768?
Grid is attached.
JerodMl reacted to Tech in formZ 7 "Hot Fix" for OS X 10.10 Yosemite
formZ v8.0 fully supports OS X 10.10 “Yosemite” but if you are still using form•Z 7, we are releasing a “hot fix” which should generally make this compatible with OS X 10.10. Please follow these steps (or upgrade to the current version):
• Be sure that you have form•Z 7.3.4. This fix will only work for form•Z 7.3.4. If you don't have it, you can download it here: www.formz.com/update
• Download libFZRT.dylib.zip. If necessary extract the zip file. You should now have a single file named “libFZRT.dylib”.
• Locate your formZ 7.3.4 Application folder and locate the file “libFZRT.dylib”.
• Replace the file in your installation with the one that you downloaded.
• Launch form•Z 7.3.4!

JerodMl reacted to emarinlara in From Foem Z to Unreal engine
Hello, as a current user of Form Z into Mac OS X environment, I am looking for a way to bring 3D models from Form Z to Unreal engine. In order to do this properly a step on UV mapping and Unwrapping is a must and most of sites and tutorials refers to 3DS Max to do it. Since there is no 3DS Max for Mac, I am wondering if there is another way to do that avoiding 3DS...
JerodMl reacted to Alan Cooper in Layout fuzzy text and part of page cut off.
When I print my layout file to pdf (I'm using size A4 and scale to media) I get fuzzy blurred text.
It is also cutting off part of the right hand side of the page.
I have tried various fonts, no improvement. I can get a reasonable result by exporting each individual sheet to png and printing a pdf document using pdf 995 or soda pdf from the results, but the vector drawings are less clear. I have a choice, clear text or clear line-work or best of all screen capture my screen and print those results to pdf but I should be able to print better than that. Any advice please?

JerodMl reacted to Pobo in [Q] My 25 year battle with export to Illustrator. Why can't this be fixed?
In my 25 years with FormZ, if there's one consistent frustration, it must be export to Illustrator. It has changed many times but it never seems to get better.
It requires so much manual tidying up, it drives me completely up the wall.
Could you please, please, please at least do something about the scaling? I'm not asking for magical auto-join, circle/bezier output, superfluous hidden line removal or anything fancy: just 1:1 output. Yes, I know I can scale proportionally in Illustrator but by the time I prepare my 27th file for the lasercutter I don't want to.
This is what I do:
- I draw a 100x100mm square in FormZ in Modeller
- I switch off grid and axes
- I'm happy with this: I don't want to go to Layout. That's an unnecessary extra step. This square is perfect as it is.
- I use Export Image -> DWG
- I import in Illustrator, 1 unit = 1 mm
- I end up with 353.503x353.503mm square.
- Why? I don't see any metric to imperial conversion in there.
JerodMl reacted to archigraphica in Layer manager suggestion
Here's an easy one. I'm working on a building with multiple components. Exterior, Interior, FFE, etc. I'm old school so I have things divided up by layers. The issue is going back and forth between different layer configurations. (In C4D I would use TAKES) I was trying to do this with the Scene's pallet which I haven't really used before, but that doesn't appear to do what I'm after. If I could suggest adding 3-4 configuration buttons to the top of the pallet. (see the attached image) It could be as simple as setting your layers like you want then CNTL-LMB to save the configuration to that button. That way you could always click the button and have bring the configuration back. Make sense? Easy to do? thanks.
JerodMl reacted to AlexanderGogl in Is analyze object broken?
The analyse object function seems to be broken. If enabled, the surface either disappears and is viewed as a wireframe when it is selected, or the appearance of the surface doesn't change at all. None of the Analysis Types works, except the Porcupine Plot. This happens in shaded work and shaded full, axonometric and perspective view.
