kac got a reaction from Brantheat in Resize Project Control Panel
I use a laptop most of the time and the project control panel is clipped off. Would be good if we could resize the window to fit the screen and add a scroll bar to access options how other panels work.

I wish FZ had symmetry. Could have used it on my last model. Even though there are work arounds it is much easier with that as an option. Something I used quite a bit in Amapi Pro and Hexagon.
Maybe add it in next release?

There are some great stuff in formZ that I love but I would like to see a much improved tools for 2D drafting. We are not even talking of major stuff here, just more curve and line editing and the ability to blend curves. The current tools for editing curves like trim and filet could be a lot more robust and have more options...I am struggling to create basic 2D geometry I could have easily created intuitively in other packages like Rhino, Autocad, Microstation etc ...It is really a shame and it lets what should be a really good program down.. i dont want to be rude, but it feels sloppy considering you expect architects and other professional designers to use this  software for business

kac got a reaction from 3dworks in formZ 9
I would like to see a better snapping and align system much like MOI has. So easy in MOI to align groups or single objects to other object or within the scene. Snapping in MOI is very aggressive so you know if you are on target where as FZ seems to not snap consistently or easily especially when you start having complex shapes and scenes.

In MOI you can have a single selected object and align it to non selected shapes.

FZ also lacks overall dimension of a selected object or group forcing you to use the measure tools. This can be really cumbersome when fitting shapes.

Lastly.... can we have math input for the input fields? Much easier to toss in a diameter/2 and hit enter when modeling something and want to reverse engineer a direct measure to radius or be able to extrude with a draft such as length*tan#°.

Though I have been modeling for too many years to count, I am fairly new to FZ and found once your used to the work flow it is pretty easy and efficient.

    1. Importing objects choose Add to Project checkbox on the menu and it will merge the object into the current project. I made that mistake myself

2 The ghosted lines are probably your ghost operands. I typically work without the operands unless I am not sure of my sequential steps I need or want to have that backup within the file. They do prove to be useful but when using ghost operant option I would advise to take a few seconds and name those objects so you can easily identify them as that list can grow fast very rapidly.

3 You should be able to save the project settings as then new default, I work in inches and miniature and new projects seem to keep those settings along with other settings.

4 If layout is opening the file it sounds like your file association might have changed. Chose the file then choose open with and then pick FormZ executable.

5 Not quite sure but sounds like the pdf generator is over riding FZ settings. Try setting the pdf generators default settings first then go through FZ and it should be fine. I use Foxit for most my general pdf generating and Cute PDF for post script work.

6 if text isn't aligned or shifts with the lines then maybe the font is being substitute or being subset from the pdf generator or the art is being scaled. I had tons of problems with Acrobat and horrible fight with Adobe and their CS. I have nothing nice to say about that company, their software and their business practice. I was a former user of their products going back to Photoshop 1.1, Illustrator 3 on both Mac and PC platforms.

I use 3d Coat quite a bit for texturing models and thought it would be good to have a hotlink to 3d Coat which has advanced uv mapping and painting.

Right now the workflow is OBJ from FZ into 3d coat but you end up doing the rendering in 3d Coat. There is no way back other than using the obj files with are now polygons.

Wondering if it is possible to add bullet physics to FZ for mechanical simulation? I believe it is open source.

Wondering how hard would it be to have dynamic alignment guides to assist in aligning objects to each other? Even if it is restricted to the 2d views.

Many of my drawing programs like Corel, Draw Plus etc all have this and MOI has something similar. It is much faster than jumping over to the alignment tool menu.

I use my 2:1 laptop that has an i5 with Intel hd 550. Surprisingly it runs FormZ really well but I have one quirk where I have difficulty selecting faces directly and need to select edges or iso lines in order to obtain the face selection. Any chance can you guys update FZ to handle lower end cards such as the Intel onboard chips?

There is a lot of low end workstations that use similar gpu's so maybe it would be worth while.

kac got a reaction from ArmandoMug in Improve Detailed Thread tool
The Detail Thread tool is awkward to work with and not accurate for internal and external threads that match. Would be good to simplify it so that you can specify thread tolerance and generate a threaded pocket (female thread) or object that can be booleaned out of a shape and have a matching male thread.

Simply scaling a threads diameter does not work with acme threads because the are proportionally long. This causes the diameter to be drastically shorter vs the thickness of the thread.

Another option for custom thread profile would be handy where a user can load in a user made profile path. Maybe have it so they can load in 2 profiles as sets (Internal & External) and specify the appropriate tolerance?

kac got a reaction from Davinhex in Antique metal shaders for Renderzone?
I am trying to make some virtuals for customers to get the go ahead on castings and am wondering if there are any antique metal shaders.  I am casting parts in pewter and antique them where the recesses are dark and tops are polished.

Are there any shaders for Renderzone or do I need to get a 3rd party renderer for that?

    Thanks
