    Extended Object info

    Hello, Tech. Sorry I didn't see your response. To clarify, I can only see the Tool Options/Topological Level when I have the Pick tool selected. If I select another tool and use Option-Command to 'Rotate View Angle', each press of the option key steps through the different topological levels. Since you can only see the topo level when the Pick took is selected it is very easy to affect a point or face without realizing it.

    FormZ -> Maya

    Thanks Jeff, in the meantime I discovered something similar. I found this site: http://www.greentoken.de/onlineconv/and converted the OBJ files to OBJ. I know it sounds odd but every file I converted imported into Maya successfully. I delved into it more and discovered that the FZ files are exporting information with zero width. In the Maya error log it tells you which line is causing the problem. I opened the OBJ in a text editor and sure enough there are 2 points of the poly in the same place. You can just add 1 to it and it works or finds the next one on import.
  3. It would be extremely useful to have a more verbose Objects menu. Some programs actually name the object whatever you have just created (curve1, extrusion4, etc.). The next best thing would be have another column in the Objects window that shows what the object actually is. Example attached. This would save an incredible amount of time when trying to clean up your project, instead of right-clicking on everything separately to get the info. --- Also, it would be helpful if there was a floating status window that showed what Topological level you are without leaving the tool you are in and then having to click on the pick tool to see if you are on Faces or Points or whatever. Especially since you can change the tool with hot keys and not know what you did. It could also show if you are set to duplicate or now which isn't always obvious. Thanks.

    FormZ -> Maya

    This no longer works. I have tried dozens of objects exported from FZ to Maya with the above settings (a cube or sphere work but nothing more complex). I also made sure that I ran the Object Doctor on each one but I get an error importing into Maya. It is always "index out of range for face creation." Is anyone else successful trying to bring OBJ files created in FZ 8.5 on a Mac into Maya 2016? Thanks.

    Exporting to EPS size issues

    Thanks, yes I am rescaling it but as I mentioned it cuts the edges of the model off. Is there anything that can be done to increase the resolution during export? I often get a rougher export than what hidden lines shows.

    Exporting to EPS size issues

    I am able to see the images now. There were coming in at .001 scale. I was told above not to scale to the page so I was wasn't seeing them. Still not a solution unless because everything comes in as Top View and not Hidden Lines as it was exported from in FZ. In the export/DWG/options/transformation I input the xyz as in project which was 60, 0, 30 and it just appears to move everything together at a different angle. See example.

    Exporting to EPS size issues

    I can open it in Illustrator but the file is blank (or is it a simple plane?, hard to tell). I tried your settings with the exception of the Binary/MS DOS setting which is set to Mac and not changeable. I still get a blank file when opening in Illust. I also tried opening your file on another Mac computer but it was blank or a simple plane there as well.

    Exporting to EPS size issues

    Thanks for the link to Google but the issue isn't 'how to to import something into Illustrator' but how to get it out of FormZ in a format that Illustrator can read. I can import Autocad files from other programs into Illustrator successfully by saving them in 2007 or 2004 format. If I do that from FZ I get an error or just get a box with nothing in it. Perhaps it's Mac issue but It's probably a combination of options in the export dialog box which will require dozens of iterations of exports until I find one that will import correctly. I don't really have the time for that. In the meantime I will use the truncated eps files and redraw the missing parts. If anyone on a Mac exports DWG from FZ to Illustrator, can you send me a screenshot of your export settings? Thanks.

    Exporting to EPS size issues

    I tried exporting Export>DWG & Export Image>DWG. While trying to import either into Illustrator CS6, I get the error "The file "cube.dwg" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened". I tried my model and a simple cube. Export Image>DWG only gives the option to change the version of DWG.
  10. Hello, often I do a hidden line drawing and then Export Image>EPS. I bring it into Illustrator and clean it up. The problem I am having is that the EPS file that I bring in are very large in dimension and often parts are cut off. How do you control how big it is? I don't see an option for that in the EPS export dialog. I have tried changing Project Settings/Data Scale and zooming out, but still not sure what the parameters are that control the size. Thanks. -Derryl
  11. Hello, I am trying to export some files to .STL for printing. I have one file that refuses to export, as it turns out a couple of the objects are surfaces not solids. I ran the Object doctor but there are no errors. The object appears solid, and if Object Doctor doesn't fix it, how do I find and repair the holes? Thanks. -Derryl

    FormZ -> Maya

    Thanks Support. I am not using a PC at all. It's Mac FormZ to Mac Maya. Only the Unix encoding works.

    FormZ -> Maya

    Thanks Rob! I had the Triangulate all faces checked for both. The .DXF option for format was grayed out but set to Mac. .OBJ with Unix was the key, not the most intuitive solution but it Imported fine. Thanks. This works:

    FormZ -> Maya

    Hello, does anyone have a useful workflow for getting files into Maya? I have tried exporting a simple sphere from FormZ as .OBJ and .DXF but I always get an error (//Error: line 0. Error reading file.) Even tried exporting with all of the lights, camera views and unused materials deleted but no difference. I downloaded several files from TurboSquid.com as test and all of the .OBJ files imported into Maya without issue (I don't know what they were created in originally). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -Derryl.
